My washer is pouring water out of the bottom if the water is on or if it is in the spin cycle. It is a Whirlpool top loading machine. I had 1/2 of water all over my laundry room and kitchen.

I have the same problem. For the last to loads I would get a beep telling me the washer was not draining. I left to let the washer finish spinning. When I came back the water was all over the floor, and still pouring out of the bottom.

Water of covering my laundry room floor - water is coming out the bottom of the washer - what is the problem????

  • Andrew112 May 11, 2008

I have a similar problem, water comes pouring out during the wash cycle. I set it to drain/spin and it drains with no problem. I first noticed this today while doing a medium load of towels, the water setting was set to Super-High or whater the highest one is. The water was completely over the top of the tub and spilling over onto the floor. I drained it and since there was still soap on the laundry I started it back up but with medium water level. It overflowed again but with "half" the water!!

What part do I need to replace or would it be better to replace the whole thing?

It sounds like you have a leaking pump. The pump is easy to replace:
#1 Use a shop vac and pull all the water out of the drain line. This will keep you from having to clean up about 1 gallon of water off of the floor.
#2 Lift the front of the machine enough for you to get under and see.the pump just inside the front of the washer.
#3 Lift the 2 retaining clips off of the pump. This will allow you to pull the pump off of the motor.
#4 Remove the 2 clamps off of the hoses.
#5 Install the new pump into the hoses, and reinstall the clamps.
#6 With the retaining clips installed into the motor housing, install the pump.
#7 Attach the retaining clips, and set the washer back on the ground.

You have now replaced the washer pump.

These Whirlpool products are terrrible, terrible products. My washer and dryer were sold as top of the line "Commercial Grade", and both have been nothing put lemons. THe fabric softner dispenses hasn't worked since I got the washer, a mechanism on the top caused the water to stop filling, the machine is CONSTANTLY off balance even with only a few items evenly spaced in the basket, water never spins out leaving clothes too wet/heavy to put in the dryer without hand wringing, and NOW water is pouring out of the bottom of the machine. I'm done.....my machine is SIX years old and it is going to the dump. I will never again buy anything Whirlpool brand or made by Whirlpool and I advise others to avoid these sub-par products as well.

I just bought my first washer from a garage sale and come to find out it is also leaking from the bottom. I took the front cover off of it and turned it to a wash cycle come to fine out there is a seal right in the center of the bottom of the drum and that's where my leak was coming from, I hope I helped someone solve their problem.

I couldn't get the model number to come up but this should be simple.
Remove the two screws at the base of the end caps on the console. Some end caps have to be removed first. flip the console back and remove the two gold spring clips, disconnect the three wire connector to the cabinet, tilt the cabinet forward and remove the cabinet. That's the tuff part. Now look for the leak.
Above the transmission, the pump, hoses or outer tub.
You can do it, have fun.

Hi,
We have a front load model, same small leak from bottom. Is the pump the same on this unit? I am pretty handy and my wife is saying, let's just go get a new one. ha haa. I have the dryer on top of it, i'll have to move it off, so I can angle it backwards. I was able to do a spin cycle to drain the entire washer, (I hope)

There should be an access cover at the bottom of the machine, Take it off and check your pump, the hose going from the tub to the pump, and the drain hose.

My front load LG Washer has a mildew/musty odor. I have taken great care of this washer since the purchase in September 2004. I cannot get rid of this odor and now it is in my clothes. I have been using...

Make about 3 quarts of boiling water on the stove. Pour one cup of bleach, and a few capfuls of pine sol into the washer (just pour them directly into the washer through the front door.) Now, if you have a faucet near the washer, turn on the hot water until the water is hot- then turn it off.

Now start a "hot" load, and after the water starts to fill, pause it, and add the really hot stove water. This will raise the water level high enough to wash off all the gunk that has built up between the spinning inner barrel of the washer and the outer barrel in which it sits.

For future reference... only use HE detergent, never use liquid fabric softener, always take the clothes out as soon as possible after the load is finished, and leave the door open when you are done.

Front loaders are kind of known for this problem.
