Question about Canon PowerShot A520 Digital Camera

1 Answer

The Connector port to the Computer wire is broke.

You know you have to connect the wire to the computer so you can actually use the pics?  Well that thing broke on the inside and now Im wondering since there's two other ports if I can buy a different wire.  It says on the cover of the three ports DC IN 3.15V   DIGITAL   A/V OUT

If that middle port is the only one that I can use to transfer pics then I suppose the only use for this camera now is to see how far I can throw it down my street.

Anyone have an answer?

Re: The Connector port to the Computer wire is broke.

The A/V out is only for viewing on a TV with the right cable. Best solution would be to buy a memory card reader and use the camera till it fails in some other way. It is not really practical to repair the digital port since it's a soldered piece on the main board of the camera. The repair would require replacing main board. $$$

Connection error

In order of likelihood:

1. Make sure your camera is charged (battery indicator good). Some cams can't transfer pics if battery is low.

2. Try a different USB port. Some cameras need a powered port. USB ports on the REAR of a PC usually provide more power than ones on the front, due to the way they are wired to the motherboard inside.

3. You may need to UNinstall the camera software and reboot your computer. Try plugging in your camera then; I rarely install the crappy software that comes with a camera (Windows should recognize most cameras right away). However, if all above fails, visit the camera manufacturer website for the latest software updates or assistance. I think it is:

4. Your USB cable may be defective; borrow one from a friend (make sure the ends are exactly the same), or try BigLots or BestBuy.

Don't know how to download my pics or videos on the coputer

There are two way to upload your picture's or video's to your pc:

  1. You can upload video to the use of your camcorder connector. Connect your USB cable to your camcorder and plug it to your computer. You need to turn on your camcorder so that it will be recognized by the computer.
  2. You can upload also your video's with the use of memory card reader. Remove your memory card from your camcorder and insert it to the card reader. Plug the card reader to the computer. The computer will recognized the card. Now you can upload your photo's or video's.
Good luck!

I can't upload pictures from my camera b/c the usb link does not recognize the camera.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.

There are also plenty of photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

How do i download pics to the computer

You should have a patch wire cord that connects your camera to to a usb port on you PC. plug it in turn on the camera to view your pics and your PC should have a box pop up asking you how you want to deal with this connection, transfer- pics to PC pics or something like download pic to a folder to use is My Pictures folder on your PC. when you get them they will be big so you will have to compress them from Mbs to Kbs. if you want to send them in an E-mail. and conserve space on your hard drive.

need more help let me know.

How do i down load pic on computer

Almost any computer store (even drugstores these days!) sell inexpensive memory card readers that have a connector that you plug into a USB port on your computer. Most have slots to read several different types and sizes of cards. Just be sure that the reader you buy takes CompactFlash (CF) cards that the Nikon 5700 uses. Your computer treats the card and reader as one more disk drive.

Usb cable

try to plug your wire at the back panel of your desktop (not in the front USB Port) and if it still doesn't work, the cable would be either of inferior quality or could be having manufacturing fault. please check with alternate cable as well.
