Question about Sentry Fireproof Safe

1 Answer

I let bettery go too long

I was given a Sentry 1610, so I am not the original owner. I've been using the same 5 digit combination for years with no problem. Now safe won't open. I think I let battery go too long. Does anyone know how I can open safe?

Re: I let bettery go too long

you shuold find all the answers there. Try turning the keypad mount clockwise to open it, and you should have access to the battery terminal. Put new batteries in and you should have no problem with the code.

Need factory code for Sentry Safe Model 1610 - know its 5 digits but cant remember - never changed it from factory code but cant find the darn owners manual!

If you need your lost combination, you must send a notarized letter stating you are the owner of the safe. The link below will tell you everything that you will need to get your combination back:

Sentry safe v260 . have both keys but forgot the combination. how can i over write it?

If you have a "3 number combination" or have a "4 number combination you that you have NOT changed", you can send in your serial number in a notarized letter and $8 to: Sentry Group, Dept 200, 882 Linden Ave., Rochester, NY 14625-2784. (this info is in your Owners Manual under Lost Keys or Combination) If you don't have your Owners Manual you can download it from:

If you have a "4 number combination" and you HAVE changed it from the original cobmination, the only solution you have is a locksmith.

Change the combination to a Sentry 2260 safe. I have original combination and all I just need to change the combination.

Safe and vault techs would advise you
1. Press the Program key.
2. Press it a second time.
3. Enter your 5-digit User Code. The green LED remains ON.
4. Enter the 5-digit Password of your choice (any combination
except 00000.) After 5 digits are entered, the green LED
turns OFF.
(To enter a new Password, repeat these steps. To erase the
Password, press Program twice, enter your User Code and then
enter 00000.)

Sentry Model 1610 Won't Open

I have a different model but I had the same problem. Called customer service and they had me push up on the handle and enter the code. That didn't work but then they had me tap the safe with a rubber mallet 5 times above the panel and 5 times to the right of the panel. That worked for me. Hope one of those works.

Changing the combination

All you have to do is press program & type in the factory code 2 times & that will erase the number you created.

Then to add a new combination all you have to do is: press program followed by 5 new numbers. Then to see if they new number works, just type in the new combination & the green light should come on & you have 4 seconds to turn the handle

Hmm, Those coin sized cells are fairly common as to types used. CR-2016, CR-2025, and CR-2032 would be my guess...
