Help I have a 1986 toyota camry and it just died one morning and now it cranks but won't start.About 2months ago the timing belt went bad and we replaced that. It's ran fine until about a week ago. We thought maybe the fuel pump so they pulled it and somehow they checked that and it is pumping fuel. So they thought it may have jumped time so we tore it apart again and set the timing. They sprayed something into it where the air filter hooks up to and still just cranks but doesn't even act like it wants to start. Can anyone give us any other ideas...plz

Oooh, your timing belt is OK? and the engine is hard to turn? You may have suffered an engine seizure due to oil starvation. Some Toyota Camry engines around this year suffered bad sludging, leading to this. If you take the spark plugs out, place the trans in neutral, and the engine is still hard to turn at the crank pulley, oooh, I think it is partly seized, sorry.
If not, I think the timing belt jumped a tooth or 2 (if old), or the fuel supply dropped pressure, or the spark failed at the igniter.
How do you know? can you see the timing belt? there is a tensioner on the timing belt just like there's one on the serpentine belt. If bad belt will not turn, but how can you see the belt with the cover on?
sounds like a broken timing belt, timing belts like to break during engine cranking and engine shut down. there are inspection holes in the timing cover,if you can't determine, remove top half of timing cover and check belt for slap,if there's slap,it's broke.
If it cranks immediately and then dies .your distributor may need to be replaced. If you have to whirl it over several times before it starts the timing is off
when you overheated the engine you warped the head. check your coolant level, and check the oil to see if there is coolant in it. worst case you get the head decked and then put a new gasket on.
