My Dell dimension 8200 will not power up when I hit the power button.
I did check and there is pwer to the mother board, I know this because the LED light on the mother board is on.

    Thanks for the quick response!

When the problem first started there was an orange flashing light on the power button if I held it down for a time, now nothing. CPU? Where is that? I have the machine open, but I'm not sure how to access the power button? (Sorry for the stupid questions).

    Thanks!

I have the same problem, the green led is showing on the motherboard. I tried replacing the powersupply with the exact same results. My question is: once I pulled the casing away and was able to access the poser button assembly, I found that it is a curcuit boad and ribbon type instead of just a standard power button. How in the heck do you get this off, assuming that I can even find another one that is...I noticed that this seems to be a common problem with this 8200 model after reading all the posts here on fixya...any help? Thanx a bunch in advance

Dimension 8200 will not turn on after a power down. If the light at the power button is on or flashing, it will start after a few tries but now no light at the power button and it will not turn on. is it the power button or the power supply or something else? can i test any or it?

Try a new power button. Also does the machine power light turn on at the front of the machine? if so check that the CPU is seated correctly as if it has come out of position then the machine doesn't boot. I would like to think power switch though.

Thanks J

Not to worry the CPU is located under the small fan and heat sync on the main board. To access the power switch take both sides of the computer off and at the front of the machine(Inside) you may see some plastic lugs just unclip those and the front comes away the you will be able to access the power switch. But before this check that the power switch or the reset switch are not stuck in. You can free them by spraying anti static cleaner over them and letting it soak for a few seconds then press them a couple of times then clean them off and try powering up then. It is best to do this with out the power cord plugged in.

    Thanks J

Elleth,

It's very possible that your power supply has gone bad. A friend of mine brought me a Dimension 8200 to look at a few months ago that was acting exactly like yours. At first glance, I assumed that the power supply was ok because the LED on the motherboard was lit up. I decided to check the power supply with a tester and found out that the only live lead was the +5 VSB (5 volt stand by) which explains the LED being on. I replaced the factory 250 watt power supply with a 350 watt and it happily booted up. Keep in mind though that you may need to make a slight modification in order to use a non-Dell power supply. I had to make the opening in the back of the case slightly larger so I could plug the power cord into the power supply.

Good luck,
Mark

When I turn on the dell dimension 8200 the light on the power button does not turn green, it stays amber color blinking and the computer does not turn on, is it the power supply that is gone bad?

Check all below possibilties & see if it works.....
  1. GGGY diagnostic lights can indicate a bad motherboard, or possibly a hard drive failure. You could try opening the case, then remove and reseat all the power and data cables, cards and memory and see if the system bootsCheck for burnt/charred power connectors on the motherboard and for any capacitors with bulging tops or are leaking, the tops should be perfectly flat.
  2. Could you please check out if the you are not having a battery problem. This could be the source of all the trouble that you are having.
  3. do the fans and hard drives spin
Please rate & vote, if you like solution
Thanks

Dell Dimension 8200 Desktop PC shuts off after it has been on for a long time. It shuts off like power has been removed from the CPU although I have an APC hooked up to it.

Sir you should check the power supply of your system. If its working properly then its because of the heat sink of your motherboard...Try to mother heat sink fans in the pc and your problem is solved......

Main power button LED is flashing or solid yellow

This is a major problem that crippled Dell. Moels Optiplex Gx260, Gx 280, and Dimensions of whose mdel number i don't remember have this problems. This signal shows that either a power supply or your motherboard is malfunctioning. If you have an insurance better use it now or else get some technical assistance.

I need the LED/power Button Cable Assy. for my Dell Dimension 8200 PC Desktop

Best way to get one of these is to go to a local independent computer service center and ask for what you need. The LED/power button wires are pretty typical in all PCs. So, they should be able to fix you up with little cost.

Sounds like the power supply is faulting. If not it is your mother board that has failed.
