Ethernet and usb not working

Hi, I can't get my system to recognize that a ethernet cable is plugged in, I had previously tried installing linux on this unit over the network. Perhaps I confused windows into thinking I have a different ethernet card. It is recognized as a intel 8255x-based pci ethernet adapter. Also my usb will not detect anything i plug in to it.

I have a hp probook 4420s laptop. Now it not ditect HDD.But Hdd have no problem.

there are a few things you can do to run down & isolate weather or not it is a communication or continuity problem,.. is it a external or internal H.D.D.? how do you know the drive is working? The first thing to I would try.. is to make sure the drivers are updated, threaded & working! to do that.. download & install a freeware application called "slim drivers" it will scan your system. find any hardware that needs updated then finds the ones you need and gives you a list with a download icon, just click & go! the link to slim drivers is in the description bellow.. .it is very easy to use! just point & shoot! If you have the type of hdd that you plug into the usb? they will get burnt! you can also try a live boot Linux.. that always rundowns the hardware conflicts! I have recovered a ton of drives! Like SD cards & usb cards & H.D.D. with a live boot Linux distro, that no longer were being recognized by the windows system "device manager" or registry! you can find the freeware or opensorce operating systems by the hundreds! Besides they have millions & millions of software downloads ,live boot Linux do not install on yous system! Linux distros are at "source" (link bellow} if you still cant figure it out? it would help to have more information, it is a guessing game at this point, Thank you,

Hi lesstravelro...
No, the printer does not connect to the ethernet port.

Before you hook your printer to your laptop besure to run any softwear that came with the printer.
I would also recommend that you go to the Manufacturer's website for updated drivers for your printer.
Your printer will have a printer port or usb port on the side/back of the printer to plug the printer cable into the printer.
You will plug the other end of the printer cable into a usb port on your laptop.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

Can i connect ethernet cable to my 6 years old packard bell desktop

As your Laptop itself doesn't have a ethernet card, you can't connect it. But I have a solution, you can buy a USB Ethernet Adapter, which you can buy for a cheap price and you won't need to open up your laptop or any stuff like that. Just plug into your USB port and start working with Ethernet.

It looks like this:

Hope this helps.

I have a Gateway T-series (Model:W350A) laptop. I just reinstalled Windows Vista and now the computer is not recognizing the built in wireless card. How do I get it to recognize it? Or how do I install the...

Plug in an ethernet cable into your ethernet card port on the left hand side of your laptop. When it connects to the internet click on the Windows update icon in the system tray. It should show you a Realtek Wireless RTL8187b wireless adapter driver update. Install it, you may need to reboot, but in any case you will have wireless networks available to you and you can pull out the ethernet cable. Good luck.

If it's a software "driver" issue...
Disconnect all USB devices.
Find your way to the "Device Manager" and uninstall all USB Controllers and Hubs.
Before you close the Device Manager the system may begin re-installing the drivers automatically.
Even so...
Do a restart and this will force the system to load a clean copy of the drivers from the root Cab files.
Reconnect one USB device at a time amd wait for the system to recognize it and install the proper drivers.
If this doesn't work it's likely a hardware problem

My HP xe4500 laptop will not complete the installation of the driver for my new HP cp1217 laser printer. At the point where I am told to connect the usb cable, it throws an error message saying something...

Well u need to install the drivers properly..
Might be possible that u would had installed ur driver previously. I'll suggest u to remove the previous installed driver & now try to install the driver again, say fresh driver installation..
Now when u are asked to plug in the usb cable, click later or no & continue..

later when every wizard of installation is completed, restart ur machine once... Now after restarting, now plug in ur usb printer cable...
Even after that u find that device is not recognized, go to device manager from My Computer's Properties..
Select go to USB Section ( Always the Last Option)
Expand the tab & select the unknown device..
Uninstall it & then press F5. Now again a pop up wil occur, now follow the instructions & install the driver manually..

I hope this will work out.. If not, feel free to ask.. I'll love to help u...

If u like my post, please rate me up, i really need some good ratings..
Thanks !!!

USB device not recognized

Hi there,
I would try visiting the Cannon offical website,
Make sure you have your correct model number for the usb device and try searching for a correct updated driver for your device and your operating system.
Sometimes there are viruses that can effect widnows in ways that can cause your pc not to recognise devices etc. in this case try AVG anti virus its free.
Try uninstalling everything printer related completly unplug the device, turn off the computer and unplug it, then start again. Make sure you dont plug the printer in untill you have re installed the device,
try changing USB ports where its plugged in and try a different cable.
Windows XP is a pain for USB devices and usually with older hardware will pop up the Device not recognised.
Also in case you incidentally modified something go into start , help and support, fixing a problem, then, using system restore to undo changes and look for a little icon and text saying run the system restore wizard.
Follow the steps and restore your computer to an earlier time say a few days ago when it worked. It still helps to back up all your info just in case...

I know your really not going to like the last option here, but back up everything settings ie internet, files and pictures and turn off your pc and insert the windows xp cd and try reinstalling fresh.
also make sure you have your xp key the number you have to input or youl have to ring microsoft.

Hope this helps you out
