Just setup printer. When attempt to scan, get error message on monitor: MP Navigator EX "insufficient memory. abort scanning"

I also have the same problem. Just bought a Canon CanoScan 8800F and when I try to launch MP Navigator EX it tells me I have 'Insufficient Memory' but I have heaps of RAM available. Another user suggested deleting files under the My Pictures > MP Navigator folder, but there is no such folder.

My Canon 8800F does the same thing. Also reports at other time, when it does start and run, that the scanner is in use by someone else and refuses to scan.
I've reloaded the driver several times. It sometimes works for 1 step scanning but not if I ask to use the driver for making settings changes.
