What is the difference in the optical and digital zoom?

Hi,

Find the difference below

Digital Zoom

1. Digital zoom is a part of digital cameras, and camcorders, which helps to crop the entire image, and then digitally enlarge the size of the viewfinder of the portion that is needed to zoom in on
2. Digital zoom crops the image down to a centred area with the same ratio as the original, and also interpolating the result back up to the pixel dimensions of the original. this method involves cropping, hence the resolution and quality is reduced
3. Digital zoom, crops a portion of the image and then enlarges it back to size. And due to this, image quality is reduced in comparison with the original one.
4. Using the digital zoom allows the user to get closer to the subject when the photographer wants to be discreet about taking pictures, like taking a picture of a person in a graduation ceremony.

Optical Zoom

1. While taking a picture using a Camera to want to get a close shot of the subject without moving physically closer, photographers use the optical zoom.
2. The optical zoom ratio of a digital camera measures how much the lens can actually zoom in to make subjects appear closer. Optical zoom, enlarges a picture while keeping the resolution and sharpness of the picture high.

3. There is no relation between optical zoom and the resolution of the photo, as optical zoom only enlarges the whole image or the subject to a certain range. So image quality only depends upon the mega pixel (MP) of the camera

4. Optical zoom is very useful, while taking a picture of a landscape, or to get a closer view of a subject, without reducing the quality of the entire image, like taking a picture of a Rainbow in the sky.

Ron

Cannot zoom in a picture. When I enlarge it it is

Are you using the optical zoom or the digital zoom? digital zoom only enlarges the pixels and eventually distorts the picture. Optical zoom actually brings the subject closer.

How can i change the size of image on the lcd screen

Press the Zoom-in button (the one with the magnifiying glass) to zoom in. Press the Zoom-out button (the one with what looks like a part of a checkerboard) to zoom out.

Zooming in lets you look at a portion of an image, zooming out reverses it.

Zooming out also lets you look at thumbnails and navigate around them to select the picture you want. Then you can zoom in to fill the screen with that picture.

If you're looking at a picture full-screen, you can also press up/down on the multiselector to change your view of the picture.

When i zoom in the picture is all fuzzy

digital zoom is different from optical zoom. when using digital zoom, you have to keep the camera very, very, very still. may even have to use a tripod.

How to zoom and remove the 2x off the screen

Using the remote control, locate the ZOOM button below number 7.
You can press this to zoom in on the picture (2x, 3x, 4x.. After 4x, if ZOOM is pressed again, the picture goes back to Normal)

There is no way to take off "2X" while it's in the 2x zoom

ZooMING Problem

You can't zoom when you are in 3MP mode (default highest resolution). The phone can only zoom in VGA/1MP/2MP modes.

To switch modes:
Start the Camera
Choose "Settings"
Choose "Picture Size"
Pick "2 MP" or "1 MP" or "VGA"

Note: Lowering the Picture Size lowers your picture resolution and quality.

Blurry zoomed in pictures

if you take pictures on digital zoom, the picture quality may not be acceptable. Try don’t use digital zoom.
digital zoom is not really zoom, it just enlarge a portion of the image, thus 'simulating' optical zoom. That is why you lose image quality on digital zoom.

Zoom

have you tried to check the mode or settings? Digital zoom is different from manual or analog zoom, when we say digital zoom the camera expand the picture digitally, the zoom lens is not moving when it reach its maximum length but the picture keeps on zooming in.
