Question about Zenith Z50PX2D 50 in. Plasma HDTV

Pop and screen goes distorted/ partially grey

Would like to replace my own boards but don't know which ones unless visibly burned(have not opened it up yet). Also have the red speckle syndrome. Any ideas? Also, you might have a place to buy them. It's worth a shot. Better than the $6-700 repair bill.

Re: pop and screen goes distorted/ partially grey

Try to replace the Y Sustain board. May get it from LG Electronics. For the red speckle syndrome, try to reduce the Vs or Vsc voltages 5-10V below their specification values. The specification values are printed on the back of PDP panel.

Magnavox 50mf231d I have this plasma tv that does not have a picture. We turned it on one morning and there was a series of popping sounds, almost like firecrackers going off. What should I try first?

Unfortunately there is a high chance that the sustain board/boards in your TV have failed. Plasma TVs typically have two of the boards, a Ysustain and a Zsustain board. They handle high voltage for the screen buffers and are know to burn out in older plasma TVs. The popping sound is the noise made when the large control ICs on the sustain boards short out. They literally burn up from the inside out. Replacing these boards is possible but not always effective. These boards are expensive and when they burn out they can damage other TV components. In my opinion it is not typically cost effective to fix older plasma sustain board problems unless you can get ahold of the boards at a steep discount. If you are tech savvy (ie you own a multimeter and other testing/soldering equipment) you can verify this your self. However, you should be aware of the dangers of high voltage electronics and have an ESD safe work space. Otherwise you should seek at a repair technician.

Black shodows on screen. Visible w/ every source...less visible with bright background...very visible with medium to dark blue background. Have seen a lot of complaints on the Internet related to this...

This problems only two posibilities,one some how u got a light image burn in into the LCD screen panel itself.If it is the LCD screen burn in,this is not repairable.The other one it could be the T-Con decoders board problems and it dying this board sit wright at middle at the bottom of the LCD screen panel to decodes and regulate pictures as it passing and go in and out of the LCD screen panel itself.Tries websites like, to buy a refurbish T-Con decoders board for the replacement,possibilites could solved ur light background shadows problems.

JV50P has power but that's about all

if Vs is showing less than 1 ohm, that is your shorted line. it goes the sustain and address boards (big boards on left and right side of set) and one of those is bad. try using the same ohm check to see which is shorted and replace that board to fix the set. if it is the address board (one that plugs into boards with lots of chips addressing each horizontal line of screen) you need to check all the address buffer chips. make sure there is no little pin sized hole burned into one of these chips or it will blow out your new address board.
other names for boards
address = Y sustain
sustain = Z or X sustain

No picture

It sounds like the LCD controller board is bad. There are more than one versions of this board because this brand of TV are made by more than one manufacturers. You need to get the number printed on the circuit board and look here:

When i turn on the tv i only get a picture on 1/2 of the television. the other half is distorted and has rotating lines. sometimes the clear picture is on 3/4 of the screen and only 1/4 of the screen is...

There is a high probability this is the tcon board, located at the back of the LCD controller.

I'll need the exact TV model number in order to be able to tell you what exactly the board number is.

It is not guaranteed - it may be the main board or, even worse, the LCD itself; not many people know, but the LCD dispay has quite some electronics literally inside it or glued to it in a totally unserviceable way.

If that electroncis burns out , the whole LCD goes to trash even if it's physically intact.

It's unfortunate, but not uncommon.

Still in your case replacing the tcon board is the first thing I'd try.

Ah, one more thing - sometims the cables that connect the tcon board to the LCD also burn and cause similar troubles. When replacing the tcon board that will become apparent.

Please rate this answer if it helps.

Similar problems to others - horizontal lines and distortion when the TV is first turned on. This problem goes away when the television warms up. It is only 1.5 years old!

Is the fault on the screen forced top manifest when the screen is tapped? If it is then take the back off the tv with the power off and check that all leads are not loose and secured ok.Next check that the power supply usually mounted central, has no capacitor tops bulging with possibly brown leakage.If so, replace faulty capacitors or replace power supply. If all is visibly ok, remove the T-Con board which is mounted top centre of screen and clean LCd screen ribbons. Then remount t-con and test again..if fault is still present then it may be the backlight connections in the LCD screen loose and arcing causing video distortion.Hope this helpls :)

I have a Vizio P50 HDM and while watching it last evening I heard a loud pop and the picture went into a very noisy/distorted condition. Sound is OK. Any ideas?

That loud pop is your Y and Z sustainer. Normally it goes out completly but yours is still half working. Not usally fixable yourself, because you may need to flash the control board f/w , which is proprietary and can't be aquired unless you work for them,

My LG Plasma TV RU42PX10C

Hi all..i had the same problem with my 42 inch LG
rz42px11. its a faulty zsus board(Z sustain part no 6871QZH033A) the pop
sound was the fuse on the board blowing.not that hard to replace but be careful with the connector ribbons! got my replacement from £150....expensive,but probably cheaper than
calling someone out to fix it.
P.S i tried just to replace the fuse on the board T2AH 250v but it blew,i think the fact the fuse blows means the board is faulty..but you could try.
hope this helps someone.
Good Luck
