Pop and screen goes distorted/ partially grey

Would like to replace my own boards but don't know which ones unless visibly burned(have not opened it up yet). Also have the red speckle syndrome. Any ideas? Also, you might have a place to buy them. It's worth a shot. Better than the $6-700 repair bill.

Try to replace the Y Sustain board. May get it from LG Electronics. For the red speckle syndrome, try to reduce the Vs or Vsc voltages 5-10V below their specification values. The specification values are printed on the back of PDP panel.

Garmin Nuvi 57LM, just replaced the USB port, when I turn it on, there is a light grey screen which then turns to a bright white screen but nothing else, no Garmin logo etc.

Your screen has gone bad. the LCD display has it's own IC chips that receive data from the main board and convert it to a visual readout. If you dropped it, there's a possibility that the internal flex cable has partially come loose from the board. However, you can't tell that unless the Nuvi is opened up. You should send it in for repair.

Magnavox 50mf231d I have this plasma tv that does not have a picture. We turned it on one morning and there was a series of popping sounds, almost like firecrackers going off. What should I try first?

Unfortunately there is a high chance that the sustain board/boards in your TV have failed. Plasma TVs typically have two of the boards, a Ysustain and a Zsustain board. They handle high voltage for the screen buffers and are know to burn out in older plasma TVs. The popping sound is the noise made when the large control ICs on the sustain boards short out. They literally burn up from the inside out. Replacing these boards is possible but not always effective. These boards are expensive and when they burn out they can damage other TV components. In my opinion it is not typically cost effective to fix older plasma sustain board problems unless you can get ahold of the boards at a steep discount. If you are tech savvy (ie you own a multimeter and other testing/soldering equipment) you can verify this your self. However, you should be aware of the dangers of high voltage electronics and have an ESD safe work space. Otherwise you should seek at a repair technician.

Black shodows on screen. Visible w/ every source...less visible with bright background...very visible with medium to dark blue background. Have seen a lot of complaints on the Internet related to this...

This problems only two posibilities, one some how u got a light image burn in into the LCD screen panel itself. If it is the LCD screen burn in,this is not repairable. The other one it could be the T-Con decoders board problems and it dying this board sit wright at middle at the bottom of the LCD screen panel to decodes and regulate pictures as it passing and go in and out of the LCD screen panel itself.Tries websites like Shopjimmmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish T-Con decoders board for the replacement, possibilites could solved ur light background shadows problems.

Random White screen On PB LCD 22inch

When the screen glows grey/white, it means that the T-CON board is bad or it is not getting the 5vdc from the logic board. or loose conection on the T-CON board which is part of the LCD panel assembly.
Does it look like this when it goes out? Checkto see if the 5vdc goes away when it goes out, the 5vdc is supplied through the switched transistor on the logic board..

GREY SPOTS ON BACK OF SCREEN NOTICEABLE WITH WHITE

Hi if your tv is a dlp it might be an issue with the DMD board Hi,Yes your problem sounds like the DMD board. This is how it works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens. Here's a video that will help you find where the DMd chip is located : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jr_9A5Xd2Q Have a blessed one!

When i turn on the tv i only get a picture on 1/2 of the television. the other half is distorted and has rotating lines. sometimes the clear picture is on 3/4 of the screen and only 1/4 of the screen is...

There is a high probability this is the tcon board, located at the back of the LCD controller.

I'll need the exact TV model number in order to be able to tell you what exactly the board number is.

It is not guaranteed - it may be the main board or, even worse, the LCD itself; not many people know, but the LCD dispay has quite some electronics literally inside it or glued to it in a totally unserviceable way.

If that electroncis burns out , the whole LCD goes to trash even if it's physically intact.

It's unfortunate, but not uncommon.

Still in your case replacing the tcon board is the first thing I'd try.

Ah, one more thing - sometims the cables that connect the tcon board to the LCD also burn and cause similar troubles. When replacing the tcon board that will become apparent.

Not receiving power

unless you have repaired circuit board assemblies in the past including replacement of board traces, there is little possibility of home repair here because ".... think i did smell something burning before". Sometimes the manufacturer will include an on-board fuse. You can open the case and look for this, but it may be too late. Fuses may never emit a burning smell even after they "burn", unless it is a slow-type and not encapsulated and you have a keen sense of smell. Sometimes the power section may include large power resistors; large because of the wattage they must dissipate. Look for one of these burnt and replace, but he actual burned part may be hard to find unless you have very good bench-testing tools and instruments. Bottom line is ...highly unlikely, "can i fix it on my own".

calling someone out to fix it.
P.S i tried just to replace the fuse on the board T2AH 250v but it blew,i think the fact the fuse blows means the board is faulty..but you could try.
