Question about Samsung SIR-TS160 DirecTV DTV Receiver
I have ended my contract with Direct TV but would like to use the box to capture off air HD using an antenae. Neither of my TV's have HD tuners built in and neither Direct TV or Samsung were any help. My impression is that Direct TV deactivated any funtionality of the box. Not sure how a third party company can deactivate a device for off air useage which I own. Can you shed some light on this?
Hi druggist , I recently bought a Samsung SIR TS 160 unit from the Goodwill for $14.99 (no remote though) and I was very sceptical as to whether it would work but I thought what the hell it's only 15 bucks .Anyway to my surprise it works great and I do not and never have subscribed to Direct TV , I don't even have a satellite dish (am using an indoor antenae) and I get about 19 TV channels 10 of which are HDor DTV .Granted occasionally I have to move the antenae around a bit but not much . I also took my box to my friends house and he has a rooftop/outdoor antenae and there were no problems whatsoever .
I doubt Direct TV can deactivate your box in anyway ,especially for off-air programs.
ps my TV does not have a HD tuner either.
