2 possible causes:
1 - the ink has started to dry in the cartridges, it has become too thick for the heads to project on the paper correctly and in the end it has clogged the printing heads - replace the cartridges and run several deep cleaning cycles.
2 - hardware fault: either the data cable (the ribbon that connects the print head carrier to the mainboard) has been damaged and it will have to be replaced at a repair shop or the processor of the printer has just failed - this is terminal since it will be cheaper to buy a new one than to replace the mainboard.
To make a pretty exact diagnose of the situation take out the cartridges and see if the printer recognizes the situation when you try to print something. If you get an error message then it's the data cable, if the printer is unresponsive then it's the processor - time for a new one.
Well its a windows problem if you can look at the experts ask for computer_bob he may have a fix for you, if you know how to go to the hp web site and do a live chat for assistance. If they can't fix it then you will have to call the company you bought the lap top from or Microsoft and get support for it there, If it's new it's free. If you know how to look up technical bulletins let me know and I will get the general area for printers for Microsoft windows 7.0 There may be a fix for it there.

Press and release the right arrow button until the display says “System Configuration Menu”. Press and release the “OK” button. Display should say “Hardware failure status”. Press and release the “OK” Button. Message changes to “Hardware failure status Cleared. Press Cancel to continue”.
Press and release the “CANCEL” button as many times as necessary, so that, either the “Welcome to Photosmart Express” screen appears, or, the “Ink System Failure” screen appears. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PRINT AT THIS STAGE.
Using the Power Button, turn the unit OFF and unplug the power cable from back of the printer and wall outlet.
Wait 30 seconds for the power to get discharged and then plug the power cable into the wall outlet first and then into the back of the printer

The Printer will start the “ONE TIME INK INITIALIZATION PROCESS”. Allow this process to complete and do not interrupt. Once the initialization process is complete, the printer will print out a Diagnostic Page.
Is the error message still being displayed on the printer?

shut down the printer and computer both then on only the pc and cancel allthe pending documents from it then again shut down your pc check allthe wires connected properly then on both printer and pc.it will work properly.feel free for further assistance.
