Is not for color adjustments ( like color,Hue,contrast,,,,) Be careful with those controls, high volts around connectors ( come from High volt transformer- Fly back). If yours is a rear projection TV the adjustment knobs on the focus block inside are screen (red, green, blue) and focus (red, green, blue). The ones you are referring to as color are the screen controls and they adjust the intensity of the color from each tube. The other set adjust the focus of each color. They are also not intended to be adjusted by the user. Unless major components have been changed these controls should not need adjustment. That is why they are inside the TV.

Picture is getting darker all the time.I updated the software.Still same problem, Adjusting personal prefrences doesnt seem to help.

Check the CRT fluid in the blue and green CRTs to be sure it is clear and not cloudy. A common problem. Since you mentioned the problem was gradual over time, I'm guessing it is the fluid. This would be more obvious if you were seeing like a frosted look to the picture or dark areas and bright areas, which are caused as the fluid clouds up. The picture tends to be more red as well.

Your alternative is to try adjusting the screen voltage of each bulb on the focus block of the tv. I think with an older Philips the screen/focus block is in the back of the tv. This is the little black module with six knobs coming out of it. Three knobs are for focus, and three are for CRT voltage.

Follow these steps:
Note: Be careful here, as hazardous voltages are very near by. Only use one hand inside the tv.
a) With tv turned on, go to a blank input screen
b) Very Slowly, turn the screen voltage up carefully for each CRT until you see arc lines of that color on the screen. Slowly back the voltage down until the arc line disappears. Do this for all three.
This should help with brightning up the picture if it is a voltage issue.

If the fluid is not the issue, then likely the flyback transformer is slowly failing and not providing enough voltage to the CRTs. Adjusting the screen voltage would help in this case.

I have a 60 inch Philips tv and the picture is kind of blury and a little red. What is tha caused from?

THREE possible reasons for this:
I will list each and describe for you:

1.) If redish picture go to a black and white channel; is the screen somewhat red or black and White? This is adjustable from inside the set.

2.) If colors are skewed or look like they have a red outline it may be a convergence problem. See attached photo.

3.) Some of these sets develop a problem with the coolant which is used to keep the face of each of the three tubes cool; it is called Glycol. You would have to remove back cover and with set on look into each of the three lens (red, green, blue) to see if you have a clear red, green and blue picture.

Which best describes your problem?

Philips 60PW9383 picture faded. Try to adjust, sharpness, contrast & brightness are all almost all of the way up, but the picture just looks weak & washed out.

Thats the classis sign that the CRT coolant needs replacement to restore the picture quality. You can get the Phillips CRT coolant kit from www.tvrepairworld.com which contains the coolant for the three CRTs plus the CD with instructions.

I cant get the color right. its to red??? any help? i did notice with the back cover off, there are 6 adjustment screws

yes! those are the screen and focus adjustments. 3 for screen, 3 for focus. try this. go in menu....turn down color, brightness, contrast all they way down. you should then have no picture, but in your case a little red. then go to back of tv and turn those 3 screen adjustments all the way down. slowly turn the screens back up until you get barely a picture. because remember, your brightness and contrast is all the way down. the picture should be dim but seeable and with red, green, blue adjustments, make it a black and white picture. when balanced..... turn up color , brightness, contrast in menu. enjoy!

Whites are real bright and has an orange color

Hi my name is Eric,
I can help you with your issue ,
This philips TV could have a number off issues, fluid leaking from a CRT,
or the SSB or SSM boards are bad.
I tech will charge you over $350 to replace a board.
There are color adjusters in the back inside the TV , red blue green screen controls, it wouldn't solve your issue , but lowering on may make it watchable for now

Adjusting visuals on the TV does nothing

This problem may have been coming from the Flyback Transfromer or the Tippler, you have to be a technician to adjust that! if you are, well first thing is to put the TV ON and sent up all the level to max for the brightness & Contrast, then after try to adjust the Flyback screen voltage for hi bright, if it work there, try back now to see if you are getting any control of the menu of brightness & contrast to work! please be careful, there about 28K volts to 35K volts, this can kill anyone... IF YOU ARE NOT A TECHNICIAN PLEASE DO NOT OPEN THIS TV.... RandyXi CriticaL PaniX
