How do i find the year my a/c unit was made ?

Find the name plate data and look at the serial number. It is normally a 9 or 10 digit number. The first two number is the year the unit was made and the next two numbers is the week manufactured. for example 0615xxxxxxxxxx is the year 2006 and the 15th week. If the name plate data is fades, look at the paper posted inside the control section. If it is still there you should be able to get the model and serial number.

How do tell how old the unit is

You will need to look at the serial number of the unit. There may also be a date code on the unit itself. If there is not a date code, then the serial number will contain the year of manufacture. Its typically within the first 4 letters or numbers of the serial number. Look for any numbers that resemble a year that may suit the age of the unit. If you cannot determine age, gather the model/serial and call a local parts house and ask for the year of manufacture. They should have no problems attaining that information for you.

Year of equipment based on serial/model#?

The serial number on Carrier units tell you when they were built. The first two digits tell you what week they were manufactured. Digits 3 and 4 tell you the year.
