Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

55HDX62 I have Hitachi 55HDX62,plasma. Has not been working for about a month. We had a phillips touch screen remote control. My daughter dropped it and shattered the screen. The next day the TV screen is black. The tv will power up but nothing else functions. The buttons on the side of the tv do not work; menu, input, output. There was a service tech guy came out removed the back of the tv after 2 hours he said he thought it was the LCD panel, but said there was nothing else he could do in the house There are no lines running through the tv, just black. We've had an extremely difficult time with the warranty company. They've decided to issue us the exact tv, but it's refurbished. A bit weary. Wondering if we should just have this tv repaired, pay for it ourselves. What does the problem sound like to you???

Should we pay the money to repair the logic board or should we go ahead and accept the refurbished Hitachi Plasma 55HDX62, that the warranty company is sending? What do logic boards typically cost?

Our fingers are crossed, we spent so much money on this plasma, I pray nothing goes wrong with this one. We will let you know how it goes on Monday.

First of all if the "technician" said the LCD panel possibly but this is a plasma then BOOT that tech, he/she doesn't know what they are doing. You probably have a bad logic board as I have seen with a few Hitachis. This is obvious to a TV tech because the logic boards on Hitachis have LED's on them to indicate their condition. I would get a second opinion on this repair. Avoid the person who thinks its the LCD panel when it's a plasma TV.

Logic boards are usually not cheap. They are responsible for control of the TV and the plasma panel. I would say the cost is between 250-375 dollars. I would accept the refurbished unit. Just make sure that the picture is acceptable without ANY image burn into the panel. Otherwise refurbished products are ok.

Back-light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

Replacing the front glass entails completely disassembling the entire TV. Your best bet is to look for a broken TV with a good front glass.

I currently have my 55HDX62 Hitachi Plasma wall mounted. I am moving the unit to another location and wish to place it on top of a TV Stand. I do not currently have the table stand which came with the unit...

Even you find it the shipping won't be cheap. They do make universal stands for LCD/PLASMA TVs. You may want to see at Walmart or a similar store if they carry the universal stand.
About a year ago a customer brought a 55" Panasonic plasma TV to our shop, and we asked him to bring the TV with the stand he found out his wife, trashed it and he made a nice stand out of pieces of wood. If you keep looking on ebay you may be able to it.

Best of luck
