Change your bios to have the cd/dvd rom to first boot. Insert the cd, it will autostart and format, and install.
After you activate. go to windows update and install the rest.
Let me know how this works for you...

When booting up my computer it goes to the error page prior to loading windows and asks what mode...regardless of choice it goes to windows logo screen and sits there and wont load...

1. check to see if your pc is compatible with the software. You didn't specify if you are reloading or installing for the first time.
2.You didn't give hard drive capacity or any information about the Pc you are loading Windows on.
You may not have enough capacity on the hard drive to load the full XP
Wndows xp requires about 2 GB of hard drive space then at least 10 GB of space for swap files and operation files.

I am trying to restore the original software on my computer and I have the discs. When I put the first disc in ''Symantec Ghost'' error comes up and it won't do anything. Any help what to do?

You need to format your drive first. Back up all your documents and then follow the instructions belowl.
nsert the bootable Windows XP installation disc and restart your computer. When you see the message “Press any key to boot from the CD,” press a key to do so.
A blue screen will show up, and the setup program will now load all the required files. This can take a while, so don’t panic; be patient. Press the enter key when you see a message “Press Enter to set up Windows XP.
Now your screen will show all the partitions available on your hard disk. Select the partition where you wish to install Windows XP. Press the D key, and then press the L key to confirm the deletion. Repeat the process for all the partitions that you wish to format/delete.
Now you’ll see “Un-partitioned Space” in place of the list of the partitions. Select this box, and press C key to create a new partition. Now, select the size for the new partition. You’ll now go to the screen that will read something like this: “C: Partition 1.” Select the partition and press the enter key; on the next screen, select the file system to be used to format the drive. You may choose either NTFS or FAT32 file system. Formatting will now begin.
You may need to wait for some minutes as it takes time to format the hard drive. The time required to format the hard drive depends on the processor speed and the size of the hard drive. Once the format procedure is complete, a new screen will show up that will guide you through the installation of Windows XP.
Good luck

First Make sure your cd/dvd rom detected in bios.
For that First open cpu cabinet refix power cable and ide cable to harddisk.
Then check your bootable recovery disk and cd/dvd rom working fine.
When you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios .
Then go to boot option and set first boot device as your cd/dvd rom then save settings and exit.
Then it boot with disk .
If still not boot then there may be some issue with cd/dvd rom or bootable disk.
Let me know if you need more assistance.
