Question about Canon Powershot SD450 / IXUS 55 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera is optically blind after water dry out

I need to know if there is a mechanical shutter that might be sticking in my canon powershot SD450 I succeeded in restoring all the functions of my camera after it was dropped in a glass of water... except for the fact that the camera is optically blind. The lcd, flash, menu and all other display fuctions work, but the camera behaves in the same manner as if someone put tape over the lens. I don't want to go any further with this repair until I know how it works from the standpoint of getting an image on the lcd.

It sounds as if you have water inside your lens. There may be water on the CCD (its like the film for digital cameras)...You could try to blow compressed air into the lens (on the side of the zoom and into the lens itself), replacing the whole lens unit, or opening up and drying out the lens unit. - each of these options are listed in increasing difficulty.

I have a cannon ixus55 and a water bottle leaked and it no longer works can u please help me as I love that camera.

You need to remove the battery at once and allow the camera to dry., Now if you are able to open the camera , use the correct tool to do so and clean the inside from all moisture before the battery is set back.

Our schools Canon PowerShot SD450 memory card has no images or videos on it but the camera says memory full...help.

Make sure that the card is 2GB or smaller, the camera only supports SD not SDHC so it won't recognize a card larger then 2GB. If it's 2GB or smaller format it within the camera and then you should be good to go.

My canon powershot SD1100 IS camera lcd screen isn't working. Its black when i try to view the picture and take the picture

You may have just accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. Press the DISP button once with the camera turned on to see if that corrects the problem. If this doesn't correct it...

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Shutter button jammed halfway down Ixus 55

If it is a dislocation of the switch then its a minor fault .... open the screws and try to disassemble the top and refit the shutter button ... its should work properly ... be carefull while opening the camera so that you dont damage the camera.....

Canon sd450 - spilled a little lemonade on the camera

maybe the lemonade was sticky and the shutter can't open? otherwise the circuitry could have been fried if you turned it on before it dried inside.

Canon G3 irresponsive Shutter & non-see through viewfinder

optical view finder. this seams odd as it is only a lens. Was the camera dropped at some point? that may explain both issues. if not then I need to know a little more prior to offering an opinion.
