It sounds like the convergence IC's. You most likly will not find a complete convergence board to replace the entire board, unless you call PTS corp, at 1-800-844-7871, and see if they have any rebuilt convergence boards for this TV or if they can rebuild yours for you. There are no real user replaceable parts inside this TV set, so if you dont know how to solder and work on solid state printed circuit board, please play it safe and get a pro to assist you. Even if you get a rebuilt board, there is going to be some alighnment involved. Good Luck and please keep us informed of your progress with this repair.

There is a common problem with a few projection TV sets. The convergency amplifiers ICs become defective over a period of time. The cure is to replace them, The cost will depend on who is fixing it.

Hi I have a rca hd52w59. the top half of the

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped or bowed
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Distorted picture

You need to re-solder the circuit board that contains the STK convergence modules. They're on the center circuit board attached to an aluminum heat sink that's about 8" long and 6" tall, about dead center in the circuit board. You may be able to recreate the problem (hour glass effect) by gently moving the heat sink (which the modules are connected to). This gives the hour glass effect on the picture and the advanced convergence screen. This is an indication that the modules pins aren't solidly connected (meaning soldered) properly. Remove the circuit board and clean the old solder off & resolder the modules pins to the circuit board reconnected the board and then retest by again pushing on the heat sink. This is a caused by a minimum effort (a.k.a. minimum cost) solder job, probably done in some 3rd world sweat shop. The "factory" job was good enough for 3-4 years but the heat (and these modules do create a lot of heat) and stress created from repeated use eventually takes it's toll, weakens the pin connections and our problem occurs. take the appropriate cautions working around the high voltage of the set & use a non-conduting piece of wood to push the heat sink when doing tests. Best of luck, hope ya fix it.

Tv needs fixing, advice appreciated

it would intermittedly display a bowed rainbow effect and the picture would jump to that/black/back into focus. it was nothing but due to change of place due to decaussing ckt to take care of magnetic effect of earth. this morning i turned it on with a black screen. It has audio but no video. your problem it sounds me that it is due to loose contact or loose connector or due to video ckt. as you said that sudio is ok. if you are not tech person call skilled tech to fix it .it is not a major problem. hope this will help you please let me know what happened.
