How to add an exception to your Windows Firewall - XP, Vista and 7

Windows Firewall protects your computer by blocking communications (i.e., bugs and malicious software) attempting to connect to your computer. Sometimes, Windows Firewall will block a program that you use from connecting to the Internet. If you are experiencing this problem, but you are still able to browse the Web (demonstrating that it's not a general problem with your Internet connection), you can add a Windows Firewall exception for the program that's having problems. This will allow you to use that program without Windows Firewall blocking it.

Setup Steps - Windows XP

  1. Click Start. Click All Programs and find the program that you want to add an exception for. Then right-click the program and click Properties.

  1. On Shortcut tab in the Properties dialog box, right-click the Target box, and then click Copy.

  1. Click Cancel to close the Properties dialog box.

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

  1. From the Control Panel, click Security Centre.

  1. From the Security Centre, click Windows Firewall.

  1. On the Exceptions tab, click Add Program.

  1. In the Add a Program dialog box, click Browse.

  1. In the Browse dialog box, right-click the File name box, then click Paste.

  1. Click Open.

  1. Click OK.

  1. Windows Firewall adds an exception for your program. Click OK again.

I can access my email but cannot access internet. I tried two different browsers safari and explorer and neither worked

You might wanna try disable any kind of Firewall software installed in your computer. If email is accessible this only means that there is no with your connection to the Internet.

My pc laptop for some reason it doesnt connect to my router it say limited access only

This could be caused by a couple of software issues (possibly a faulty hardware to, but lets not worry about that for now).
1. Try resetting the router by pulling the power plug out for 30 seconds and plug it back in.

2. You have a software firewall on your PC that is interfering with getting a DHCP address. Disable any firewalls and try again.

3. Your router (for whatever reason) is no longer giving out DHCP addresses to your PC. It may be hard to configure without an address too, so you may have to reset the router to factory defaults but holding the 'reset' button on the router for 10 or more seconds. It should then go back to factory defaults and the DHCP should be back on. You will have to re-enter any custom settings you used when originally setting it up.

Wireless router dlink dire-301

1) Check and test your firewall. Your firewall, especially if its a software firewall like ZoneAlarm, Black Ice, Norton Firewall or something else could be blocking the connection. Disable your firewall and test the connection. You may have to resolve the problem by even uninstalling and reinstalling the firewall.

2) Check your IP address - Renew your IP address

3) Reset your TCP/IP stack by downloading and running WinsockXPFix.exe a Visual Basic program designed to fix corrupted TCP/IP issues, host file problems and a variety of other connectivity issues.

Wireless network

Turn off the firewall, and then try connecting, if still the same then try to open the router configuration and change the channel to 1 or 11, or try setting up a new wireless network.
If your belkin adapter is external, then try reinstalling the software of your adapter by running the installation disc.
