Bought the S50 12/06. Love IT! Especially it being portable. Anyway I attached the USB cable to PC & did all the necessary (doubt it was necessary now) updates. After the Step 1 is Step 2 "car dock" put it in the car dock & that update was completed, it just sat there on the main screen, then after awhile it showed it was on Ch. 184 it just sat there with no sound or anything displayed on the screen. I've contacted everyone & did everything...they said I need to get a new one, because it'safter the 1 yr warrenty, which kinda stinks because its (I think) the softwares fault. I worked beautifully until I did the UPDATES. Any more tips, solutions, ideas...etc...would be great...PLEASE HELP

I had the exact same problem happen to me yesterday with my S50. My guess is that the software got corrupted somehow. I fixed mine last night be reinstalling S50 software via USB cable to my PC. Note: You need My Sirius Studio application loaded on your PC. Be sure to press Exit button on My Sirius Software Ap after you reinstall S/W. Patiently wait for S50 to 100% complete before disconnecting. Then, manually turn on S50 (while holding in your hand); do NOT put in car/home dock yet. S50 will then update S/W. When this completes, now you can put in dock. I don't exactly recall, but I think the S50 indicated the dock was being updated, then it defaulted to channel 184 indicating to call Sirius to subscribe. Since I already have a subscription in place on my S50, I just pressed channel 2 (The Blend) from my remote, and then my S50 began updating all channels. Success! I'm so happy my S50 is now working again! Good luck to others experiencing same problem; hope this helps! I can only imagine the frustration trying to get help from Sirius folks for this type of problem...
I am most certain that you have to return the radio most likely you do have a faulty radio and you have only one or two choices here. Return or take it to a tech...I would use the warrenty and send it back...sounds very faulty...this is common with these radios.
I got in!!!! i first removed all 4 screws. I then used my pen knife (or the like...i.e. a very thin blade) and inserted it on the right side (rounded end). Insert in an upward direction so that the blade ends up under the gray (top side) plastic. I then very slowly worked it toward the bottom of the unit using a slight prying motion. It popped open a little for me - just enough so that i could more easily work the blade in the other direction and pop more open. eventually i was able to get the whole gray part off. Be carefull because as you begin taking it apart, the rubber buttons may fall out - no big deal because they are just in there via pressure anyway. (for me, very little damage was caused by using the blade - barely noticable)
Once the top is separated from the bottom, be careful...the actual circuit board is no longer attached to the black placstic backing, but it will not come apart due to an internal copper wire (it may be the fm transmitter antenna). It is secured to the black plastic via plastic tabs that appear to be folded over on the wire - and if you pull it out, it looks like you may not get the wire back the way it should be.
anyway, for my purposes, i did not need to remove the copper wire.....i positioned the circiut board far enough away from the black plastic in order to get a soldering iron in there to re-attach one of the "legs" of the 12V plug. I just got a drop of solder on the iron and placed in on the leg. I have not tried it out yet, but it seems to have re-attached securely
I had the same problem and I replaced my car antenna. That resulted in immediate signal improvement. But three months later, the same thing. So, another dot micro car antenna. Three months later, the signal went out again. The home kit worked perfectly. In my case, I bought a Sirius outdoor home antenna and replaced the standard indoor/outdoor antenna that came with the home kit. I took the home kit antenna and connected it to my S50 car kit and positioned the antenna on the front of the dash. No problems since then. Not one. Those dot antennas are horrible. I'd check that before getting a new radio.
Call Sirius and verify your account is still active. Also, on the S50 make sure you can see your ESN number. If you can, go to the menu and Reset Channels. If you can't do that on your car kit, try it on your home kit.
I have sat ultra 2000 have some file store in my disk when I download to receiver by mistake I klick the file fix. You have to use My Sirius Studio as the interface to your S50 to add/remove MP3 songs. Depending on your Windows version (hopefully 2000 or later) you should be able to connect via USB and Windows will autodetect the device.
My Sirius Studio is a poor man's iTunes where you have to add music files before you can drag them to the playlists you created on your S50.
You can download the software from the Sirius web site, including the latest update.
Keep in mind you have to disconnect the S50 from My Sirius Studio. You can't copy files to it and then unplug the USB cable.
