Question about Webroot Spy Sweeper (spysweeper) for PC

1 Answer

Spy Sweepers 'WRSSHP' not allowing the screen saver to function.

Howdy, I have an issue with my screen saver. At the prescribed time, the Screen Saver kicks in, but a fraction of a second after actuating, a Spy Sweeper icon along with 'WRSSHP' pops up in the tool bar for a further fraction of a second. The Screen saver then discontinues. I am running on Vista and am functioning with Spy Sweeper version I have googled this issue to see if anyone else is experiencing this problem, and have found that yes, others are. The google search also indicated that there are some viruses with this 'WRSSHP' tag. I have scanned the Spy Sweeper 'WRSSHP.EXE' file with a number of different virus scanners. Is it simply an issue of an options setting ? Thank you for your assistance.

REPLY TO 'Fundi' POST: The version of Screen Saver is a Windows Software System one. Thru playing around with the settings, I have found that the Spy Sweeper shields option - Keylogger (which is an OPTIONAL shield) is the culprit in this matter. Once deactivated, the problem is no longer an issue.

Is having the bubbles Screen saver settings the same as having my lock screen background picture on

No, it's not the same. The lock function of a Windows PC is independent of your Screen Saver or background picture. Your PC can be set to enter and exit the Screen Saver without having to be unlocked. This option is labelled "On resume, display the logon screen" in the Screen Saver options page.

I get a blue screen that says my computer was shut down to protect from crashing, and it says it dumped my memory

I recently saw a very tricky virus that made it look like my computer was getting blue screen of death. It was acutaly a virus that had replaced my screen saver. They had even faked the screens that made it look like it was rebooting. I had also been locked out of the screen saver functions so I couldn't turn it off.

I booted in safe mode and removed the current screen saver.
I also ran a full virus scan.

Blue screens are normally caused by corrpted system files or faulty hardware.
But I'd do the screen saver test first.
