Question about Webroot Spy Sweeper (spysweeper) for PC

1 Answer

Spy Sweepers 'WRSSHP' not allowing the screen saver to function.

Howdy, I have an issue with my screen saver. At the prescribed time, the Screen Saver kicks in, but a fraction of a second after actuating, a Spy Sweeper icon along with 'WRSSHP' pops up in the tool bar for a further fraction of a second. The Screen saver then discontinues. I am running on Vista and am functioning with Spy Sweeper version I have googled this issue to see if anyone else is experiencing this problem, and have found that yes, others are. The google search also indicated that there are some viruses with this 'WRSSHP' tag. I have scanned the Spy Sweeper 'WRSSHP.EXE' file with a number of different virus scanners. Is it simply an issue of an options setting ? Thank you for your assistance.

Is it a downlloaded screen saver? check the strictness settings or how high the security settings are set ,and what they block on each setting.

I'm currently using webroot spyware. Though Mozilla and iTunes were working fine before I installed, after I installed the Spy Sweeper and then updated Mozilla and iTunes, they have been unable to connect...

Click on your tool icon at the top right of your screen(might look like a gear). Click on internet options. In the window that pops up click on security tab. Click on the trusted sites icon then click on the sites box. Scroll through the site and make sure the sites are in there and that the "enable protected mode" box isn't checked and exit. Click on tools again and internet options. This time click on the "privacy tab" and adjust your level to "allow all cookies and exit. This should work for you. Does your spyware have it'sown firewall?

How to Recover Windows 2000 Password

Forgot administrator password on a system running Windows 2000 can be problematic when the administrator to perform maintenance. There is a trick that allows a computer user to reset his password, if you forgot. The process to recover a password in Windows 2003 and XP is different from the process used for Windows NT and Windows 2000.
Step 1. Insert the installation CD of Windows 2000 / DVD into the drive of the computer and then restart the computer.
Step 2. Select the destination directory for the alternative Windows operating system when the program asks you to do. This directory is not the same as the default installation of Windows. This is the computer is a dual-boot system.
Step 3. When the computer restarts, select the alternate Windows installation from the dual-boot menu.
Step 4. Find the logon.scr file. It should be located in the %systemroot%\System32 folder of the Windows folder.
Step 5. Rename logon.scr and move it into the C: folder of the hard drive. You can choose to move it to a different directory. The important thing is to remember where the file gets copied.
Step 6. Find cmd.exe and make a copy of it in the %systemroot%\System32 folder. Move this file to the C: folder of your hard drive.
Step 7. Right-click on the original cmd.exe file and select "Rename." Delete the cmd.exe text and replace it with logon.scr.
Step 8. Restart the computer and start Windows installation. Do not touch the computer until the start of the screensaver. Since the screen saver file, get the default is replaced with the file cmd.exe, then a command prompt instead of the screen saver.
Step 9. At this prompt type: net user administrator <password>
Step 10. Delete logon.scr from the %systemroot%\system32 folder.
Step 11. Issue the following commands from the command prompt:
copy c:\logon.scr c:\windows\%systemroot\system32
copy c:\cmd.exe c:\windows\%systemroot\system 32
Step 12. Restart the computer in the original. From here you can remove the additional installation if desired. If the administrator installation alternatives are on a different drive or partition to reformat the hard disk or partition is the easiest way to achieve this goal.

I just purchased Spysweeper last week. It was working fine, and now it sits in "loading" mode without fully loading. I also had Microsoft Security Essentials (free) running, so uninstalled it...

Thank you, and I hope this helps...

There was a compatibility problem that existed between Webroot's Spy Sweeper program and Microsoft's Vista operating system. The issue occurred after an update Microsoft automatically delivered to Vista machines using its automatic windows updating function on January 8, 2008. The bug was fixed on February 12th, 2008. If you have automatic updates set on your Vista machine, the bug will have been corrected by now automatically.
Other issues may be: Check for firewall issues if you still have problems. Temporarily switch the firewall off and see if performance improves. Add exemptions to your firewall if you find it's the cause. SpySweeper.exe, SpySweeperUI.exe, ssu.exe and WrConsumerService.exe should be added and allowed to access the internet.

Bypassing system/ adminestative pass keys

mkdir temphack
copy logon.scr temphacklogon.scr
copy cmd.exe temphackcmd.exe
del logon.scr
rename cmd.exe logon.scr

So what you just told windows to backup is the command program and
the screen saver file. Then you edited the settings so when windows
loads the screen saver, you will get an unprotected dos prompt without
logging in. When this appears enter this command that’s in parenthesis
(net user password). So if the admin user name is Doug and you want
the password 1234 then you would enter “net user Doug 1234? and now
you’ve changed the admin password to 1234. Log in, do what you want to
do, copy the contents of temphack back into system32 to cover your
