Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-32FS120 32" TV

1 Answer

Favorites Keep Coming On

I have a sony wega KV32FS13. If you turn the channel, it stays for about 5 seconds, then the favorites flash and the channel changes to the last favorite channel. You go to the menu, and the menu keeps changing so fast you can't chose anything. I sent it off to repair the last time it did this, but they said it was fine. I unplugged it and left it unplugged for a week, that didn't work. I took the batteries out of the remote and bought a new remote, that didn't work. I plugged it in today, and now you can't change the channels at all on the tv itself and if you change it on the remote, it changes back to favorites! THIS THING IS A PIECE OF JUNK! Any suggestions, please respond to tknne@hotmail.com

Almost the same thing happening, except on my TV it chooses the first Favorite instead of the last. It happened about 3 weeks ago, then not at all for 3 weeks, then again last night. I wondered if someone in our neighborhood has some electronic equipment that is putting out interference which the TV is picking up (e.g., ham radio or broadband networking equipment?) I've found several people who describe similar problems on the web, but no solutions yet.

I have been having this same problem on and off for about a year. It is now so bad we can not even watch the television because it does it every 2-3 minutes. I have a satellite reciever so when it goes to the favorite chanel I need to press menu to get back to the satellite.

I don't have any "lower" buttons. My TV is a Sony KV-32FS13. Upper buttons also were not stuck. Since my first post the problem has continued intermittently, probably 1-2 times per week. Seems like it may be getting more frequent. Sometimes it now also brings up the favorites menu whenever any button is pushed (except Power, which is only button that works reliably when it's doing this.). That squashes my theory that it was a neighbor sending out interference, and makes it look more like the brains of the TV are just dying.

About 2 years ago my 2 yr-old did spray Windex on the face and it shorted out something. Repair was about $125. Since then, no Windex.

Check to see if the lower buttons are stuck. You should feel a 'click' when you depress them. If one of them is stuck... you found the problem. Now you need to fix it. All you need to do is pull on the plastic button just a little to give some spring back to it. Or try a needle with a bit of a hook on it. Side it in the right side of the button and pull the button forward. Just be careful not to pull it to far. Just enough to correct to position.
Do you spray windex on the face of the tube??

To see if the problem is with your remote control, go to the receiver and use the channel up/down buttons on the receiver itself. If you can change your channels with the buttons on the receiver, the batteries in your remote control probably need to be changed.

If you can't change channels from the receiver, turn off the receiver. Then unplug it for at least 15 seconds. Plug the receiver back it and turn it on. Again, try changing channels from the receiver itself.

Tune to a channel, and while programming is playing, try tuning to the missing channel by entering the channel number on the remote control keypad to see if channels change. Do not try to select the channel from a channel list, program guide, or favorites list.

If this approach takes you to the correct channel, you need to adjust your favorites list function. Press the "guide" button on your remote. Look for a button on your remote called "fav" or "list." Press it several times and watch for an indication at the top of the guide that you are moving from "all channels" to a particular favorites list.

If you are locked on one channel only, your Channel Lock feature is likely active. Consult your owner's manual to unlock the rest of your channels. See your owner's manual for information on managing favorite channel lists and locking out channels. Enter your password, if necessary.

Front panel buttons and remote have stopped working.

Is the favorite channel menu a function that is normally accessed by a button on the remote?

If so, that button on the remote might be stuck.
If this is the case, the menu may at times pop up all by itself and other buttons on the remote and on the TV's front panel may not respond at all (it had happened on my remotes more than once).

Try to clean the remote control (the housing, rubber pad with knobs, circuit board) with ethyl alcohol, when you clean the housing, you should also clean the holes through which the buttons protrude, there might be some dirt that keeps the button stuck.

It may also be a stuck button on the TV front panel, so check these too.

Also, it could be something else, i just wrote the description of a problem and the solution which to me seemed most likely.

Hope you get it fixed.
