In the Sony PSP, there are 7 total screws. In the battery area, there are 4 screws.. the 4th screw in under the VOID sticker. Next, there are two screws you need to take out. Those two screws are near the Memory Card slot/Wireless switch on the back. Finally, the last screw is on the bottom. When you take out the bottom screw, you need to be alot more careful because that screw is very easy to strip. Finaly, you have tooken out all the screws.

when you say scanner do you mean laser that reads the umd?

you could replace the laser from one off ebay
but the thing with replacing lasers is that adjusting the laser so it reads the disk it tricky

here is a shop that repairs lasers in psps

also you say it is 1 year old from brand new? bought from the shops

My son dropped his psp on the floor!!!

Yes this can be fixed... it sounds as though the LCD screen [the screen on the inside] has become damaged with the fall. The following website sells the LCDs and does replacements. The cost depends on the model of the PSP that you own. You can find the model number of your PSP on a label inside the back of the PSP if you remove the battery. Check them out:

Psp analog stick

If I'm understanding the directions correctly, all you need to do is pull up on the analog cap. It snaps back on so don't be afraid when it comes off. If you lose the cap, i believe they sell replacements for it separately in most Best Buys, Circuit City, etc. They cost like 5 dollars for 3 or something....

After you pull off the cap there should be kind of a small stubby joystick.

Good Luck!

I keep getting an error message- unable to clean....I just bought and installed new ink cartridges, and the machine is still having trouble - I cannot print at all now. There seems to be no way to clear...

The waistinktank has to be replaced. DO NOT only reset the code but change the waistinktank! Otherwise ink will flow into the machine and will cause serious damages!!!!!!!! See link how to do that:
