Tip & How-To about GPS

How To Prolong Your GPS' Battery Life

Are you tired of having to keep your GPS plugged into the car for the entire duration of your drive? Does it die out instantaneously after removing it from it's jack? If it does, there nothing you can do to fix it because the battery had over heated and lost its battery life tremendously. I can only say that you would need to purchase a new one.
However, if your GPS doesn't die out right away, here's your chance to start prolonging its life. First, let it completely die out by turning it on, and leaving it on until it the batteries run out of charge. Second, plug the dead GPS into either a house outlet, or a car jack (if you are using the car jack, make sure the car is on!!!). Third, wait for the GPS to reach full capacity, but DO NOT let it overcharge, it kills the battery. So I recommend checking on the charging GPS periodically at even intervals of your choice. When it is done, just unplug it, and it is good to go.
NOTE: Do not charge the GPS in while in use.NOTE: If the battery is low as you are driving, turn it off and plug it in to charge.Explanation: This is why the steps above the notes are to be taken to prolong the life of your GPS' battery. 1 Complete Charge + 1 Complete Drain = 1 Charging Cycle

My battery keeps dieing on my 1994 accord, what could the problem be?

If you can drive it for a long time then it is not the alternator. The battery has a short charge duration and it is old. There is a parasitic drain on the system that is draining it when it is not running.

Is the mobile plug-in going bad if the unit reads: turning off or stay on; and it is plug-in to the unit and car? And should the unit be plugged all the time when in the the car; even if it is charged?

Hello,

At GPS City we usually recommend keeping the power supply in and only removing for pedestrian use, for a couple reasons. Wear and tear from taking power in and out can either effect the units pins or the chargers. But if you are receiving that message it means the unit dosent have sufficient power to run on its own, so your battery could be dead aswell. Try charging it for a good 2-4 hours and then see if you can get about the same usage time off the power cable. If not the units battery probably has died.

Hope this helps!
