The main board is gone. Paxar/Avery Dennison/ replaces it. I'm waiting on a board to be replaced.

I forgot to mention, after replacement you need to cycle the power while pressing all three buttons. Wait a few minutes to see how the printer responds. You will have to cycle the power one more time without any buttons to get the printer to fully reset and be functional.
If after this the error continues the problem is within the RAM chip on the main board. The only remedy is to replace the board at this point. You could try replacing the RAM chip but howthis will affect the printer firmware is unknown. There is no listed firmware update for the 9830 and earlier printers. Using the 9825 firmware update could possibly damage the 9830 printer beyond repair.

Replace the cmos battery on the main board
The original battery is Renata 338A which is an encased CR1225 3V 48mAh lithium cell. The battery needs to be soldered in place
To get the exact replacement (CR1225) only costs $5 online but the suppliers require a minimum $50 order.
I soldered in the nearest equivalent 3V battery I could find. I used conductive epoxy to glue leads to the battery and soldered the battery in place using low heat. I don't think the encapsulated aspect is more than insulation but there is lots of clearance so the battery is not in danger of coming into contact with anything to short it out.

909 errors are a RAM corruption on this printer. You should consult their tech support (monarch.com).
If the printer is under warranty or contract, and the technician cannot reset the printer over the phone, the typical fix is to replace the main pc board. If the product is out of warranty, you'll be hit with a time and material charge, but you can ask them to evaluate the printer for a standard bench fee (30 minutes labor charge, under $75 I believe), and they'll apply the 1/2 hour charge to your invoice so that you don't have to pay the time twice if you want them to fix the printer.
... much cheaper than replacing it. Start with calling their support desk.
