Question about Canon PowerShot A540 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Black screen I get a black screen when the usb is plugged into the port, the camera light is still on but nothing is on the screen and nothing uploads to the cpu. I just installed a new 2-port usb 2.0 PCI Card because it wasn't responding before. The previous message i had was when clicked on brings up a window that says the unknown usb device is a hi-speed usb device and will function at reduced speed when plugged into a non-hi-speed port It tells me that there are no HI-SPEED USB host controllers installed on this computer so it gives me a recommendation the unknown usb will function at reduced speed. you must add a hi-speed usb host contoller to this computer to obtain maximum performance so i installled the PCI card and now i get a black screen on the camera?

Re: black screen

To view the pictures on the computer, remove the card from the battery compartment and put it in a card reader connected to your computer.

When I plug my camera (cannon A560 powershot) into my computer using a USB cord, the camera screen goes blank and a green light blinks. I can't upload pictures on my computer anymore. I just recently got a...

Try NOT using the USB connection.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Sony camera says Switch on [MENU] when i upload pic from USB cord

1) Try uninstalling then re-installing your Sony software.

2) When you connect to the PC and switch on, Click on Start - "My Computer". Your hard drives and disk drives should appear in the window.

Have a good look, is there a new drive, it may be called Sony, or USB mass storage device it may just be called drive E or F.

If so double click on that drive, if there's a folder there, double click on there, with luck you should see your pictures, that new drive is really your camera.

You should be able to move pictures by copy and pasting. Once copied you can deleted them from your camera.

3) You can buy a device called a "Memory card reader" Make sure its good for sony memory sticks.
You take you card from you camera and put it in the card reader. Then, once plugged into a USB port its just like another HDD as described in 2.

4) I should have said this first, try another USB port if you can, it my just be dust in the port making life hard............

Good Luck.

I can't upload pictures from my Sony DSC-S650.

Goto any radio shack and get a external memory card reader this will allow you to get your pictures if the camera or cable is defective.

Cannot upload pics from camera to PC

Hi Ray;
Try uninstalling the Fuji software completely, through the Windows control panel. Don't use the supplied software at all. Make sure the camera is unplugged from the computer. Open "my computer" and note which drives are present. Now plug in the camera (still turned off) to the USB port. Turn the camera power switch on. Wait and see if a new drive icon shows up. It may take a minute or so. If you get a new icon (probably Fuji DSC or similar), you should be able to open the new drive and access the images through the various folders. If not, can you see images on the camera screen (when not connected to computer)? If yes, maybe a bad cable. If no, could be corrupted images on card.
