My 2005 Pontiac Sunfire engine noise

My 2005 Pontiac Sunfire has a noise from the front top side of engine that I was told may be from the bearing in the water pump.Is this a hard enough job that it should only be done by a shop? I am no professional mechanic but have done all my repair work for the last several years but nothing on this car beside regular maintenance. What does it take take to replace the water pump?

Sounds like you and others are unsure of the source of the noise and until you have verification I would not be pulling the water pump off and hoping that is the problem. If it is a bearing noise it could be a pulley bearing elsewhere.

Make sure you have identified the problem before doing any work. Your car won't be the first that has developed the noise so check with a shop that works on this model vehicle and is familiar with their issues.

If it is the water pump that is faulty, clearly your best bet is to purchase a factory workshop manual for the car and use this to guide you through the process. You can then assess after reviewing the manual if this is something you would be comfortable doing yourself.

The water pump gets its power from one of the pulleys on the serpentine belt. 1) remove belt 2) remove pulley from pump 3) remove pump 4) remove and replace old gasket and reverse procedure for installation. Usually, when a bearing goes bad, there is a small water leak from the pump.

Driver's side wheel bearings, greased

That depends on what type of vehicle you drive. If the noise is on turns it’s more than likely a bad ball joint or toe rod end

I have a loud humming noise comming from the front end of my 1996 pontiac sunfire constantly help please.

Does the humming noise reduce or change in pitch slightly when turning a corner?
Most likely a wheel bearing failure. Also, when one wheel bearing on one side fails, the other is not often far behind. I often therefore replace in pairs.

Where is the oil dipstick located on a 2005 pontiac sunfire

Usually on the front side (standing in front of your Sunbird) the dipstick tip on GM cars is usually yellow...some rare models have the dipstick located inside of the oil filler cap...(attached to inside of the cap:) Hope this helps.

2005 pontiac sunfire 2.2 L my son hit the oil pan and leaked all the oil out and car died.so i repired oil pan filled back with 5/30 oil started the car a lifter noise was present but went away but as we...

i think you need to take the oil pan back off and take a good look at the rod bearings, this engine sounds a lot like upper end noise when the piston is hitting the bottom of the cylinder head because a rod bearing has spun.

My Sunfire makes a loud noise from the front right side when I make a left hand turn. Whats the problem?

Usually, a loud clicking noise is indicative of a bad axle. You could also have a loose/damaged wheel bearing.

Front wheel bearings bad

if it gets louder when you turn left then the right front wheel bearing is bad and vice versa it gets louder when the weight shifts to that wheel

Where to check/put in transmission fluid in 2005 Pontiac Sunfire

I assume this is an automatic transmission, you didn't say.
There is no dip stick on the transmission any longer.
You will have to go under the car to check. You may want to go to your local instant oil change and have them check the level.
If you feel you want to check it, here is a description of the location and process.

Make certain the vehicle remains level while checking the fluid.
Located just above the top sealing flange of the transmission oil pan you will find a threaded plug. Remove the plug and see if transmission fluid drips out of the hole. If so, the fluid level is correct. If not, remove the red fill cap on top of the transmission, driver side. Add fluid to the transmission until fluid dribbles out of hole.
Replace and tighten the plug.
Good luck.
