I had the same problem. Won't turn on but when connected to laptop via USB it shows RTC (real time clock?) error, then syncs, then shows image of battery and says FULLY CHARGED. I downloaded the firmware and installed and all that did was delete ALL the music on the device and it still doesn't work. It is just out of warranty. Does anyone know a company that fixes these players?

I have the same problem so I downloaded the firmware and all that did was delete ALL my music. The same problem still exists. Won't turn on but when connected via USB it starts up, shows RTC (real time clock) error, then syncs and then shows and image of a fully charged battery with words FULLY CHARGED. Does anyone know whether repair stores can fix these players?

You must just plug the usb cable.
And remove all the files from your samsung yp-k5.
And push the reset button of the front from your samsung yp-k5.

You can try the following steps. It worked for me.
=================================================
1. Scan your YP-K5 with BitDefender Internet Security 2008. Will automatically remove "WIN32.DiskKnigt.A" virus if infected with this virus.
2. Plug the USB cable while holding on the POWER button to the left (-) <-----.
3. Remove the USB cable when it booted. You should be able to proceed to the main screen by now.
4. Go to settings, correct the date/time.

Hope this helps.

Had same issues - my yp-k5 would randomly show rtc error when I plugged it in & than would randomly not turn on or would take a few times pushing the power button to turn on. & then didn't turn on at all.
1. opened the speaker portion to - out.
2. flipped the screen portion over w/ speaker still out.
3. found reset botton on back side below usb &mic port
4. used pencil to click reset botton.
5. flipped over & turned it on.

Hope this helps a FEW of you!

Anybody who says its easy to fix it isnt you need to sent it back its a problem with the actualy mp4 mines done the exact same they wipe the full thing and start from the beginning like when you reboot your pc its cost's nothing if its in warrenty but over here it cost £15-£25 to send it and £10 for resetting it

I have had the same problem 3 times now, once with my first one and twice with my second one. i love this mp3 player so i coulnd part with it so instead of trading it in for the second time i left it for a few days and then put it on charge and all of a sudden it starts working. so you can download the firmware which ive never tried or u can wait for a while see if it works with ur K5
Hope this might help

How can fix my samsung yp-k5j it says rtc error

http://www.samsung.com/ph/consumer/tv-audio-video/mp3-player/mp3-player/YP-K5QB/XTC/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support
you could try to reload the firmware available at the link above they have guides available as well or if it still under warranty you might have them repair it
RTC means Real Time Clock, it is a hardware clock designed to count actual time. if this is faulty, things like playback and touch sensing will be affected.
It needs repairing unfortunately
i hope this helps you

I said RTC error

Real time clock, maybe? I'm not sure, but re-installing your current firmware may correct the issue. Check your firmware version on your K5 under "Settings>System>Firmware version", and you should be able to find links to MTP and UMS versions can be found in the forum.

"rtc checking"

if you keep in in a jar of white rice it'll **** up all the water, and then about 2 days later, just to make sure all the water is gone, but it in the freezer. muy friend did that and it started working again. my k5 is doing that and 'm about to pop my baby into the freezer in a few minutes.

System says fully charged when it is not

have you tried updating the firmware? Go to Samsung.com support > download center > type in the model number (yp-k5jab) click on firmware, and download the version that corresponds with your device. install the firmware updater on your computer, plug in your device. and flash the firmware. (this will erase ALL songs and settings so you will want to back those up first). After that its like brand new. Keep the updater handy, since this might crop up again.
