Re: HDD 500 gig will not work USB

You can use that HD or any Hard Drive for that matter, only thing is, that you have to have it formatted in FAT32 format, not NTFS which it probably is by default nowadays. There is a program called swissarmy and it will format any drive to fat32, and you will be able to store whatever u want on there like a normal drive, basically u wont notice a difference except the fact that now it works with your dvd player.

How does the usb work (for reading movie clips from an external hdd?) can't get it to work.

When you go to the File Explorer ( an icon on the lower bar showing a set of FileFolders inside of a support holder (yellow folders/ with a blue holder Icon) Left click on the ICO and all of the attached devices will show up on the desktop screen. If the external hard drive is showing up (could be Drive G or H for example) it is connected, however if the attached drive was not formatted the drive will not open for business. New attached drives need to be partitioned and formatted prior to use.

Panasonic sa pt860

Check your USB memory to make sure that it comply with the points below:
1) USB standard USB 2.0 full speed
2) Media file format support MP3 (.mp3) WMA (.wma) JPEG (.jpg) (.jpeg) MPEG4 (.asf)
3) USB device file system FAT12, FAT16, FAT32
4) USB Port power Max. 500 mA

As you can see
1) You should format your USB in windows format (FAT system)
2) The files on your USB should be those mentioned above on point 2.
3) 2.5" hard drives most likely do not work without an external power supply.

My LG DP122 will play some AVI files from a USB device but not others.

figured this out, lg dp122 uses DivX Home Theater profile, so the technical specs of the video must match that.
Those specs can be found here:

I plugged in my usb into the dvd player to play vidoes off it but when i look for it in usb mode there are no videos. i have put videos and songs on usb and songs work so i know its compatible i just don't...

The size of the usb device also matters on these dvd players more often than not. If you are using a larger usb device and you have a smaller one try using it with a couple of files and see if that makes a difference.

I just bought an Aveis 1080p upconverting DVD player and when i put my USB device in it doesn't it says unsupported. What kind of USB device should I get

USB stick has to be formated in FAT32 file system.
Some players will only play sticks up to 2 Gigs, some may recognize and play video files even from external hard drives.
Aveis is a no name player, so who knows if it'll play anything besides MP3 and JPG.

I'd go with a Pioneer or Coby (both at Best Buy); both play DivX format from sticks and external hard drives; no MPEG-4 or MKV files though, which is a bummer (did not find any player under $100 that does.)
I tried them both (also tried Philips and Toshiba), but the Pioneer had far the best picture and sound amongst all of them. Coby was OK, but the display broke.
