Question about Televison & Video

Convergence problem? I have the old school Sony KP 41T65 - 41 inch for my garage T.V. and I am having trouble with the picture. The Green portion of the picture is showing up concaved on the screen. I can play around with the convergence and get everything centred in the middle of the tv, but is doesn't match up on the top and bottom of the screen. I have tried to look for possible solutions that may have already been posted, but I can't seem to find anything that will help me in troubleshooting the problem. The weird part is that I can get everything to match up just by tilting the tv backwards. Any help would be appreciated.

If it was a losse mirror, would it not affect all three projectors (whole picture)? It is only the middle/green that I am having trouble with. I have checked the connections and can't seem to find any problems.

If evrything lines up when you tilt the set backwards , you may just need to make sure the mirror is tight. The clips may have loosened over the years therefore throwing the aim out of alignment. If the mirror is tight ,then I would suspect a loose connection. You might try having a mirror and try moving some wires with an insulated tool from behind while you look into the mirror to see if it has any affect on the convergence. Could be something as simple as a loose plug. Hope this helps.

The tv picture looks like should be wachting it whith 3d glasse

This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets. Its called a convergence failure. Here are some common symptoms.
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
The other common problem is cloudy lens fluid. After many years the coolant in the blue and green lens will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, bright white, etc. You may even see halos around objects on the screen.

You can see some example photos and find a solution here on Fixya.

Sounds like it needs a convergence performed. Not really something you can do yourself. Requires special equipment and know how.

My KP-46WT510 picture is out of alignment. There is no conversion of the red, blue and green pictures on the screen. They're off by about an inch of each other.
Some tech told me that it was the power control that was bad. I can see the picture, just very blurred.
Is he right? The tv was not move at all before this started happening.
