The best bet and I have had several customers bring systems in with this problem is you have to edit the registry file and get rid of the upper and lower registry values once you do this save and reboot the machine it is just like a new drive was installed worked on all of theres one however came back to me twice and it turned out it was a conflict with other installed hardware. Hope this helps If you simply go to google.com and type clear upper lower registry values and the name and model of you drive as above it usually gives you a step by step and happy computing. CD-ROM drive doesn't acknowledge DVD-ROM, what's wrong?

CD-ROMs dont play dvd becuase they are not designed to read dvd.

If a dvd drive for your model is not available, you can buy an external usb dvd drive.
That should solve your problem

How to do a system recovery when my cd rom drive doesnt work?

got to have a new cd-rom drive mate, most practical approach.

other options are network boot (done in offices with many computers), USB boot (if your BIOS supports it & you need to have a USB device with the bootable image of the system disk), etc.

A DVD-ROM problem

Find a technician who can do it for you - or if you are conversant with computers you get an eternal dvd rom Drive and use it. Have you tried the floppy drive if your computer has any? or the flash disk?

please try one these options.

If this happens with all your CDs and everytime, I would suggest you should replace your CD Rom Drive with a new one. After use of some years CD Rom Drives have such problems. Otherwise a software might locking your drive. you should find a tool which unlocks the drive and then press the eject button.
