Copy off your data to another computer before recovering. A recovery usually restores to factory settings and loses all data.
You could boot to Ubuntu or Linux and copy your stuff that way, then when restored, copy it back.
Can the drive read other disks? I'm guessing no. If no, it would appear as if the drivers for the CD rom are not loaded. If this is the case, you will need an internet connection to download the drivers for the cd rom so it will work. Other than that, you can try to install generic cd rom drivers through windows, that may work. Good luck.
The driver needs to be reloaded. It may still be in the Dell Utilities Program, the Dell Drivers File, or it can be downloaded from Dell's website. Go to Control Panel/System/Hardware Manager and drop down to CD Rom Devices. Right click on your product and click on drivers/update driver. If your device isn't listed there go to install hardware in control panel. You might want to swap the CD rom unit with a known good one. On three occasions I've had the CD Drivers be OK, but the Windows drivers were corrupted. Had to reload the operating system completely to make it all work again.
Right click on my computer icon then click on property then ->hardware ->device manager
then check there is any cd/ dvd drive showing in list. If you can see your cd /dvd driver then uninstall it. then restart computer. But if you cant seen then you need to refix your cd dvd rom. For that pull your cd drive from laptop but make sure there is 1 lock system near rom just press that lock and pull drive then refix it.
the same problem of mine is my drive cannot able to read DVD then i make the solution if you have CD RAM/ROM + DVD ROM then change it to CD/DVD RAM because in case of CD RAM and DVD ROM it may read CD but not DVD but sometimes it can read DVD also but when we copy data to computer it may freeze or give us error so i give you one suggest to buy a new CD/DVD RAM
Hi... This is lens problem.. Clean the lens using cleaner disc. and make sure that the dvd/cd rom icon is present inside the My Computer. if not then go to Control Panel->System->Hardware-Device Manager->enable the dvd/cd drive.... Thank you...
Find a technician who can do it for you - or if you are conversant with computers you get an eternal dvd rom Drive and use it. Have you tried the floppy drive if your computer has any? or the flash disk?
In the front side of the dvd drive you will see a small hole ...so to eject that cd put one niddle in that hole and . Now
press the button at just after that apply a force on niddle .suddenly
you will notice that cd will come outside ,if not try more times and
you will learn to eject the cd when you are unable to do it by pressing
the eject button... ------------------------------------------- Low feed backs hurt my
