i have an old emachine it has a regular phone - moz-screenshot.png
This is a PCI Network Card. It plugs into a PCI expansion slot on your computer. You will need to install the drivers for this network card to work properly.

How to install a network card Some newer computers come with network interfaces built in - your machine carefully for a socket that looi have an old emachine it has a regular phone - network_symbol.jpglephone socket with a network_symbol.jpg next to it. These are sometimes hidden behind a flap or on the corner of your laptop next to the modem socket.
If you haven't got a network interface already on your machine you will have to install a network interface card. These are available to buy from the IT Service Desk.

  • USB Adaptors simply plug into a USB port.
  • PCMCIA Cards for laptops slot in a free PCMCIA slot on the side of your machine.
  • PCI Cards are a bit more fiddly and require you to open up your machine.
  • We advise that you use a USB adaptor for ease of installation
Instructions on how to fit a PCI network interface card.
  1. Shut down Windows and then turn the computer off and unplug it. Never work in your computer's insides with the power on or the power cord plugged in!
  2. Remove the cover from your computer. There are normally a number of screws on the outside of the case to remove. Put the screws someplace where they won't wander off.
  3. Find an unused expansion slot inside the computer. The expansion slots are lined up in a neat row near the back of the computer. All new computers have at least three or four slots known as PCI slots.
  4. Many older computers also have several slots known as ISA slots. You can distinguish ISA slots from PCI slots by noting the size of the slots. PCI slots are smaller than ISA slots, so you can't accidentally insert a PCI card in an ISA slot or vice versa. Figure 2 shows the different types of slots. PCI slots are white, ISA slots are black
  5. When you find the right type of slot that doesn't have a card in it, remove the metal backplate from the back of the computer's chassis. A small retaining screw holds the backplate in place. Remove the screw, pull the backplate out, keep it in a safe place in case you ever want to remove the network card.
  6. Insert the network card into the slot. Line up the connectors on the bottom of the card with the connectors in the expansion slot, and then press the card straight down. Sometimes you have to press uncomfortably hard to get the card to slide into the slot.
  7. Ignored the little cable that came with the card, you can chuck this in the bin. It is a Wake-On-LAN connector and isn't required for your card to work.
  8. Secure the network card with the screw that you removed in Step 4.
  9. Put the computer's case back together. Watch out for the loose cables inside the computer; you don't want to pinch them with the case as you slide it back on. Secure the case with the screws that you removed in Step 2.
  10. Turn the computer back on.

Does it mean that it does not have the ethernet network capability. Easy. Buy a 10/100/100 ethernet card for the computer and after opening the side panel fix it into the available slot on the motherboard (the should preferably be plug and play in Windows that you are running). Then boot up. If the card is recognized by Windows, allow it to detect the card and load its drivers, else, insert the CD that comes with it and install the drivers. Reboot and allow Windows to detect the card and load its drivers You will get a msg in the right bottom corner of the screen to say "Your new HW has been installed and is ready for use". Now you are on.

How do i connect phone to laptop connection

So do you have internet service at the house? If so you can plug the ethernet cable from the modem directly into the computer's ethernet port.

If you're talking about directly connecting to your cell phone, then the phone has to have the built in router in it. If it does, you can connect your computer to it wirelessly.

If you're talking about a regular old house phone (land line) then you would be very slow if you could get it connected. I don't think the newer models of computers even have a modem port to connect a telephone line into it. But basically you would still need a internet service provider to connect it.

Bear in mind that there is a difference between the phone cord and the ethernet cord. The phone cord is smaller in size and the end that plugs in is smaller.

Emachine with dynex dx-e102 ethernet card will not get a connection. I updated the driver, but still the same. an ! mark at the desktop icon. Hardware says working correctly. Wher do i go from here?

You don't. Emachines are junk. I had more come through this year then ever! Buy an aftermaket card if you need a connection. Dynex is actually a "Best Buy" brand. Look for a Linksys or go wifi with a Lynksys. About the same price.

EMachines%C2%AE eM250-1915 CANNOT CONNECT TO

Maybe the cable is broken?
You should try another cable.

If thant won't work, maybe your router block the traffic between the router and the pc. But it is a bit difficult to explain that. When you tried anoter cable and it still doesnt you, you can send me an email with the details of the router (brand, type etc.)

Good luck!

I just installed windows xp on a emachines model

You actually don't need an executable or a setup file to install the driver. When you unzip the set of files, put them on a location on your C:\ drive where you'll know your'll find them like c:\drivers\ethernet (just as an example) Go into device manager and under the device driver for the ethernet controller, right click and then go to "Update Driver." When you get the Hardware Update Wizard, select, "No, not this time" and choose "Install from a list or specific location." Check the "Include this location in the search:" and then browse to the directory where you extracted the files.i.e c:\drivers\ethernet\ and click next until the wizard finishes installing the driver.

I hope that makes sense if you need further clarification please reply back to this post. Please don't rate me until I help you resolve your issue. I will help you resolve it.
