Freezing Samsung i730
I have had the freezing problem 3 times. Everytime it was a software conflict. The first times were after I had upgraded my computer and the "helpful" computer people had upgraded my Outlook from 2000 to 2003. Things were great for a while, but then I got screens to insert my disc for Office 2003 and I got the black screen. This only resolved after I purchased Office 2003 from e-bay. Then, I had trouble with my security program, trendmicro. I forgot the password and couldn't delete it, etc, etc. Only after it expired and I removed the program could I get around it.
So, what you have to do is a hard reset: hold down the on/off switch on the side and at the same time, do a soft reset with the stylus. This re-sets the device back to factory default. You then should have a working phone. If resetting the phone doesn't help, you may need a replacement phone. If it works, then you have to re-establish a connection with the pc and restart loading your programs one by one. You could backup the device after each successful load, so that at any time the freezing starts, you could go back to a previous successful load
The second problem suggests that something is running all the time behind the black screen of death--like a software conflict. If this doesn't resolve with a hard reset, you probably need a new phone.
Hope this helps. Obviously I've been where you are SEVERAL times, and know the frustration. I'm now elated that my phone works, my itunes is working again(another disaster related to computer upgrade) and everything electronic in my life is humming along well for the first time in WEEKS.
