Your RCA TV needs serious troubleshooting. Burning smell is from HV transformer or resistors smoking.
Most likely power supply and/or high voltage circuit or convergence circuit. Many times RCA have multiple or secondary faults that occur with HV or convergence failure.
Repair of RCA HV or convergence usually requires exact manufacturer parts and upgrades or repair in power supply. I would not advise trying this repair without manufacturer support for correct part numbers and service bulletins.
your high voltage splitter is probably bad, or you high voltage flyback transformer (deflection board). not sure of your model #, is it correct? It may be a lamp but you shouldnt smell burning. You can unplug and let it discharge and find where the burnt up parts are to find your problem. Follow your nose, it always knows!
Ok, easy !!!.( take it out the box ) Look, in the front part of the box TV ( under convergence panel controls) you will see a little black box, we call high voltages splitter ( 5 red wires go to pictures tubes and screen focus box). Replaced it. Am suggested inspected for possible leak coolant, just for be sure noy leak coolant projection and prevent future problems. I hope this help you, Thank you !!!
The Burning smell could be coming from either a defective transformer, High Voltage Divider - splitter or solder connections and resistors could be at fault as well. Leave the set unplugged until a Tech can work on it. It will not be a DIY job I'm afraid.
