Re: Wide Screen vs Full Screen

Look for screen format in video mode menu or if you have original remote you have that option in your remote

It depends on the video input source + maybe just settings try the remote or menu look for aspect ratio screen size set on 16:9 ratio aspect if its a 1920 by 1080 it should be 16:9 play with the screen setting and buttons on the remote each tv maker is different !

Picture is only in middle of screen, top and bottom of screen is blacked out

If you are watching widescreen format movie or tv programming on a non-widescreen tv, that is how it will appear. The widescreen is a wider picture so to show it on a less wide screen, it has to shrink down to fit. and leave blank space top and botton.

If not, sorry.

Why do we have black bars on top and bottom of screen

Originally when 16:9 TVs were produced movies were being shot in 16:9 so that you had a full screen. Now they are being shot in 14:9 as it gives you a more cinematic experience. This is due to the fact that colours look more vibrant when they are placed against a colourless/lightless surface (such as a black panel) as for the bars on the side of the screen LuciferStarr is correct; it depends on the format in which the video was originally produced. For example most older television shows are still shown in 4:3 but newer shows and movies are produced in the widescreen format.

How do I set the DVD picture to Full Screen as opposed to Wide Screen?

That is the way the DVD makers intended it to be. The TV cannot be adjusted to change that if it is a widescreen or "letterbox" movie.
