I don't have the software that came with my brother 1440 printer and can't seem to download a driver that works with my windows xp

As per the printer manufacturer website, Brother Hl-1440 printer is not compatible with Windows 7.

However, you may download & try installing the XP drivers for the printer in Windows XP mode.

To install in compatibility mode:
1.a. Right click on the setup file of the driver.
b. Click Properties.
c. Click Compatibility tab.
d. Under compatibility mode, check mark "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" from the drop down list.
e. Click Apply and then click ok.
2. a. Under "Privilege level", click "Run this program as an administrator".
b. Click apply and then click ok.
3. Install the driver successfully and restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

Install them to your Computer, verify if it works!!!

you can still use the printer go to brother and download the xp or 2000 driver it should work

or do a microsoft online update and it will update itself

Why would you need WinZIP? Zip handling is built into Windows XP. The driver from Brother is a Self-extracting archive, meaning you don't need third-party software to open it, just double-click it and select a destination for the file extraction. Then, when you open this particular extracted folder, you'll see many different folders named Disk1, Disk2, and so on. Open the folder Disk1, double-click the SETUP icon, and there you go - the driver installation starts.
