Laptop not recognizing device when plugged into laptop how to fix

The computer is not recognizing the device because the appropriate software or driver is not installed on the device.

Most of the time when you connect a smartphone into a compatible laptop the device drivers or software automatically install, so the laptop may recognize the smartphone.

Here are some possibilities as to why the device is not recognized.

1) The USB port is bad.
2) The USB port is not activated
3) One of the devices does not support the other

Here are a few possible troubleshooting solutions:

1) Go to the smartphone manufactures website and download and install the updated device driver and software then plug in the device to see if it is recognized.
2) (if Windows OS) Go to the Device Manager to see if the device is showing up when it's plugged in. If you see the device in device manager right click the device and choose to update the driver.
3) (if Windows OS) Additionally, in device manager you can check your device's USB ports to see if there is an issue with the ports that may be resulting in the smartphone not being recognized. You can choose to re-enable the USB ports or update the software for the USB ports.

Hopes that helps resolve your issues.

How to fix ?USB device not recognized? error in windows

Are you getting a “USB device not recognized” error whenever you plug in a USB mouse, keyboard, or other USB device? I love USB and have 5 ports on my computer so that I can connect my mouse, keyboard, camera, phone, and printer to it all at once!
However, last weekend, my computer stopped recognizing my USB devices! The strange thing about it was that the USB ports were not bad because all of my devices were still getting power to them. I could still charge my cell phone without a problem!

c24d32d.png

So I started with the normal fixing methods, including uninstalling the drivers for my devices and reinstalling them. That didn’t work! Next I tried System Restore thinking that maybe I had installed something and it caused a conflict with the USB system drivers. That didn’t work!
I read online that in order to fix this problem I should go to Device Manager and uninstall all of the devices under USB Controllers. Restarted the computer, reinstalled the USB drivers, but the problem STILL did not go away!
You may also see in Device Manager that the device shows up as an “Unknown Device”. 42b721d.png
So how did I finally fix the problem? Well, apparently it’s a super simple solution! No need to edit the registry, uninstall drivers, or anything of that sort.
Simply UNPLUG YOUR COMPUTER FROM THE POWER SUPPLY. Yes that’s it! Note that this does not mean just turning off your computer because modern computers don’t really turn off when you press the power button as the motherboard still gets power.
First to explain, the motherboard is where all of hardware of the computer is connected to, including the USB ports. Sometimes the motherboard needs to be “rebooted” also because something can go wrong, i.e. all your USB ports suddenly stop working. The small microprocessor on the motherboard will reload the drivers and your USB ports should be back to recognizing all devices!
So first turn off your computer using Shut Down or pressing the power button and then UNPLUG it from the wall outlet. Let it sit for about a minute and then plug it back in.
Hope this helps someone fix that pesky “USB device not recognized” Windows error!

Why won't the right USB port recognize when I plug in my mouse?

Your USB ports on your computer are plug and play. If you have issues with your USB port, it is port related, driver related or device related. The following solutions will help you identify the problem to resolve your USB port issues.
To Identify a Working USB Port
Begin troubleshooting your USB ports by checking Device Manager to see if your USB ports or hubs are working properly.
  1. Click the Start button. ClickControl Panel.
  2. ClickSystem and Maintenance.
  3. ClickDevice Manager.
  4. Double-clickUniversal Serial Bus controllersand check to see if all your USB ports, hubs and controllers are functioning correctly. Any devices not functioning will have a yellow exclamation mark in front of them.
  5. If Device Manager shows any USB ports, hubs or controllers are not functioning, check for updated drivers.

To Update the USB Port Driver

An out-of-date BIOS driver can create issues with your system recognizing the USB port.
  • Watch a Video on Steps to Update Bios on Your Computer.
    1. When the update process is complete, your computer will restart again to load the operating system with the new driver version installed.

USB not recognized during printing and scanning

Some motherboard or operating systems have problems if you leave usb devices plugged in. They don't recognize that the device is still there and ignore it. These are referred to as "Legacy USB devices". There are a couple of things to try.

Make sure the problem isn't the printer if you can. If you have another computer just plug it in long enough to for the operating system to recognize something has been plugged in.

On this computer giving you the problem. unplug the usb cable and insert into a different USB port. Usually this is enough to "fix" it and make it usable.

Next is to unplug the usb and reboot the computer a few times. Then insert into a different usb port.

Past this point if it still isn't working then you need to go to control panel-system-hardware manager-usb devices and delete all entries under the usb header. Then reboot. This forces the operating system to find all the usb ports and reinstalls the drivers. Then plug in the usb and it should work again.

Are you using an external power supply for the disk? If not, you might be overloading the USB port. It should not happen, but USB ports are limited in the amount of power they can output. Especially laptops might face such problems.

Do other USB devices still work on those USB ports? If so then the port is at least not broken.
Sometimes you can uninstall and reinstall the USB hubs and controller devices in the Device Manager to fix USB problems.

Usb problem

You shouldn't need the USB driver 2.0 from mercury because windows installs this with SP2. Suggest you un-install what you installed from mercury & update your version of windows (completley), through "Windows Update". Once windows is all updated & you have finished with a reboot. Plug your pen drive in a opened usb port. Open windows explorer. Scroll down & you should see an icon (left side of explorer), thats named like, Removable Disk. Give windows time to see the device. After a few minutes if your pen device does not show up try another usb port. One you know does work. If after a couple of minutes go by & you still don't see the device listed in explorer I would say the device is defective. Your Mp4 uses a cable to connect to the usb. Try connecting to another PC's usb port. It is possible the cable is dirty or bad.
