One of two things can be wrong: You may have to remove the keyboard and reseat the little ribbon cable that runs from the touchpad to the motherboard or the touchpad/keys may be bad--which means they must be replaced.

Testimonial: "OK, thanks. More than I want to do (not keen on opening up laptops), but I'm glad to know I'm not overlooking a quick sw fix, aka drivers, etc."
SOURCE: THE LEFT AND RIGHT CLICK
When the clickers on a laptop stop working usually this is caused by various factors. The first of which is old age of the laptop, second cause usually is excessive forceful use (When the clicks are pressed with so much force always), thirdly is when the quantity of dirt which has slipped under neath it has gotten too much therefore it makes poor contact and becomes stiff to press and finally when the driver for that part of the device has gotten corrupt or the clickers are disabled.
The first three causes usually can be solved by referring the unit to a service technician for evaluation and probably servicing although in this situation i would advice you just get a wireless or USB mouse because once a laptop is opened the problems just keep rolling in. If the laptop has been in use for more than 2 years then one of these is the most likely problem.
The last option only requires installation of a new driver in the event of a driver failure you can determine if this is the problem if the pad itself does not function properly in the other option you have to go to control panel and ensure that the clicking device is enabled.
hope this solution has been helpful?
