Recorded disc playback trouble

I cannot get the disks I record to playback on any DVD player except the Magnavox MWR10D6 that I used to record them. Any suggestions??? I Have changed to different DVD's and I have checked to see if there was some sort of 'finalization' I am supposed to be doing. Nothing works.

We used a Magnavox VCR/DVD recorder combo to record football highlights. We have been unable to playback the DVD on any other DVD player. We have gone through the same steps, with no success.

Oh my god this thing is such a piece-o-junk! I've had it for about as long as the 90 day warranty. It seemed to work fine until the warranty ran out. Now it turns itself on and off for now reason, the clock settings wont activate, the timer settings don't work, the clock doesn't seem to be running, etc. Tried to get help from Wal-Mart and Magnavox but...like I said. I worked just fine until the 90 day warranty ran out. So, if you've got one of these units you've been SCAMMED just like me. I suggest you do like i do and go onto every customer complaint site or message board and warn as many people as you can away from this piece of garbage and the scam-job being perpatrated.

You have to finalize the dvd's through the menu... from page 36 of the manual....on the remote control press SETUP use the arrow key to select "DISC EDIT" press OK Use the arrow key to select FINALIZE press OK. A confirmation window appears, use the arrow to select YES and press OK.

As an after thought, if you did finalize and the disc's are still unplayable, double check to make sure the dvd brand is compatible with the other dvd players. Not all dvd's are created equal.

The disk might not have been finalized in the program that it was recorded on. If this is not the case unplug your recorder for 60 seconds and then plug it back in this resets the recorder.

I Have a Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD Recorder Certain shows or movies i try to record , I get a pop-up saying " Cannot record in +VR mode " . What is +vr mode and how do I change it?

VR mode or Video Recording mode is a feature on stand-alone consumer and computer DVD recorders that allows video recording and editing on a DVD rewritable disc.
In VR mode, users can create and rename titles for the scenes. Also, if a scene is deleted, the space allocated by it will be utilized later without the need of reformatting a disc.
If the user would like to record on the same disc again at a later time, in VR mode, users may eject the disc and it will not be finalized by the recorder until it is manually initiated. For the sake of comparison, any DVD disc recorded in VR's competitor V mode (or Video mode) will be automatically finalized before it is ejected by the recorder. Disc finalization is still required if the disc formatted for VR mode will be played in another DVD player.
Currently, users can only record in VR mode with the use of DVD-RW, DVD-RAM and DVD+RW discs, (updated in 2000 to accommodate DVD-R (General)) [DVD players marked “RW compatible” and “DVD Multi” can play DVD-VR recorded discs] and on some recorders, also on hard-disk drives.

Won't play on any other dvd

You have to use your friend's DVD recorder to finalize the disc. Once the DVD is finalized, it will play in other DVD players.
On your friend's DVD recorder, pop the disc in, and use his remote to go to Setup --> Disc Edit --> Finalize --> OK
Voila!

Is a Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD Recorder codec or driver needed to play DVD disks on computer?

There are work arounds... but the reason is when its burnt and finialized its written in .vob format which is dvd mpeg2 format. majority of windows media player codecs wont pick it up. divx does. its just the format its burnt in and you cant change obviously. you can just try like nero showtime which always works or ending up ripping the disc on the computier but that might defeat your purpost of burning them in the first place. Its not the dvd recorder i may add, its just the format. by the way its a magnavox unit made by funai... www.funai-corp.com/support and trust me your not going to get much out of their. your better off going into forums finding more high depth problems if you really want this to work for firends and families and such.

Dvd player

Are you using a DVD+RW disk? Unlike DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD-RW disks you cannot finalize DVD+RW disks on the Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD Recorder. Instead you have to make the disk compatable [Make Edits Compatible], this allows you to close the disk and play it on other DVD players.

go to: Setup ==> Edit Disk ==> Make Edits Compatible ==> Yes

Other than this nothing else comes to mind to troubleshoot this problem. Hope this helps.

MAGNAVOX MWR10D6

You need to finalise the disc before it will play in a DVD player (DVD+-R), or make edits compatible (DVD+-RW)

Check out the "Playing the discs in other DVD players" section in the "Recording" chapter of the manual. (Page 36)

If you don't have the manual, it can be downloaded from this link
