Re: error 1418 cnnot load songs to the thing

My iPod Shuffle worked for a few weeks. However,

When I try to load songs onto the IPod Shuffle, I ALWAYS get this error message: "The IPod Q98 cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred. (-36)

My USB connectionas ARE working and I have installed and reinstalled the software.

Thank you,

P.S. Please help! I plan to return this device if I cannot get it working once again. It is very frustrating.

When i click the restore button into itunes, it

The shuffle has been plagued by this error code in the past and it used to mean death. Apple has put an update or "fix" for the error code.
or if that is not successful, you can do this.
Here is a fix that will work in almost 1418 cases. Low-level format the iPod using a low-level formatting tool. The default format command in XP will not cut it. You will find plenty of freeware and trialware tools on the net. Here is one:
Just install the application and run it. Choose your iPod “drive” and let it do its thing. After the low-level format is complete, run iTunes and when it prompts you to restore the ipod, do the restore and your iPod is now good as new !! I hope this helps and good luck!

Problem uploading songs on iPod Shuffle

Are you running the most current version of iTunes? If not try upgrading. After that, try seeing if there is an firmware upgrade. If there is, try upgrading that too. Then try reuploading songs. If it is still not working, it might be damaged or just not working anymore. Only use Itunes when uploading songs to ipod regardless of type.

IPOD Shuffle deletes songs if I delete them from the music library in Itunes

You have to keep all the songs that you want on your iPod on your computer, otherwise you will get this problem. So if you want song "a" on your iPod it must also be in your iTunes library at all times unless you don't want it on your iPod anymore

  1. Update iTunes to the latest version and attempt to restore your iPod.
  2. Try connecting your iPod to a different USB port and restore.
  3. Remove any third-party USB devices you have connected to your computer (it is not necessary to remove your keyboard or mouse).

Green/orange flahing light on IPod and no music.

From Support Website. If the front status light on your iPod shuffle blinks orange and green when you press any button, then your iPod shuffle is experiencing some type of error. Try these troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem. To troubleshoot the iPod shuffle error light: 1. Turn off your iPod shuffle 2. Wait a few seconds 3. Turn your iPod shuffle back on again If this does not resolve the problem: 1. Check to make sure there are songs on your iPod shuffle 2. Use iTunes to add songs to iPod shuffle and try again If your iPod shuffle continues to display a blinking orange and green light, use iPod Updater 2005-02-11 or later to restore iPod shuffle, and then add songs with iTunes. If your iPod shuffle still shows a blinking orange and green light after trying all of the above steps, your iPod shuffle may need service. Best of Luck.
