Re: won't power on.

You still need to replace the swivel assembly on the hose, or you'll have the same problem. Removing the swivel is tricky. If you still need help let me know.

Re: won't power on.

It maybe cheaper by going to somewhere like the Radio Shack to get a fuse. Take the bad fuse with you and they should be able to fix you up with one.

It stopped working while I was using it . I tried to plugged in different electric outlets but it still dead. What should I do or look into in order to get it back to normal?? thanks

I would start by taking the wand apart. Be sure vac is unplugged from the wall outlet! You should be left with two pipe pieces, and the beater bar. I would also pull the hose from the canister unit itself. Once all the pieces are pulled apart, check the two or three prong wire connectors on each piece, both the female and male ends. If you have any dielectric grease, use a dab on each electrical connection. Once you reassemble, and still not powering up, wiggle the wand back and forth at the connection near the canister, and after the hose near where the switch is. If the vac cuts on after wiggling it, then you have a loose connection, and will need to tighten the female ends on the electrical connections, by squeezing them together slightly with a pair of pliers. Please rate if this works or does not work. Thanks!

Hello, I have a Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum 116.20912006. It won't turn on. On the hose assembly, the end where the hose swivel is, there are 4 metal pins that plug into the canister. One of the...

Hi Susan,

if the pin has broken off you can do one of two things,
first, would be to find a local vacuum repair shop and take it there for them to look at. they may be able to look at the hose and fix it for you pretty cheaply. what cost, not sure.

second, would be to contact sears and order a new hose assembly complete with the ends. Make sure you specify complete and one piece so that all you have to do is plug it in and vacuum. Many times my customers have brought me just the hose and no ends because that is what sears sent.

Good luck.

Power nozzle shuts on and off

HI There, When a Kenmore power nozzle cuts on and off, this usually indicates that your electrical hose has gone bad and has a short circuit somewhere. You can try and troubleshoot the hose to find out where the short is by trying to determine what position the hose is in when it cuts on and off, and try to isolate the short circuit by spinning the hose on both the end that plugs into the canister, as well as the end that plugs into the wand. Sometimes the short is in the wands, or even the swivel neck assembly on the power nozzle where the wands connect. I would say 9 times out of 10 though on Kenmore canisters, the problem is in the hose. Kenmore is actually manufactured by Panasonic, and the two brands use a lot of the same identical parts, including the electrical hose (most cases). If your Kenmore has a two position switch, with a setting for floors and carpets, then here's a link to the corresponding Panasonic hose that you can buy. The Panasonic hoses are a little more expensive then Kenmore, but the huge benefit is that they come 100% completely assembled, where as the Kenmore hose has to be assembled (which is extremely difficult even for me to do). Panasonic 3 Wire Electrical Suction Hose To Fit Kenmore Canisters On just a handful of Kenmore models, an additional modification has to be done with the internal switch. Kenmore must have had the hose modified so you'd have to buy the genuine Kenmore part, but luckily simply switching two wires on the switch will allow the Panasonic hose to work. Try just plugging in the hose into the vacuum first, and if it still doesn't work properly, then you can modify the switch. If you find that the short is in the wand or swivel neck, just use the comment field on this repair page and let me know, I'll be happy to follow up and walk you through either of these repairs as well. If this was helpful to you, please be so kind and rate the repair, or leave some feedback for me. This is greatly appreciated. Chris Jones

Beater bar lost power - even after pushing reset button

Hi There,

If you've already tried resetting the power brush, and it still won't come on, this indicates that your electrical hose has most likely gone bad, and needs to be replaced.

This is actually a pretty common problem on Panasonic canisters, as well as Kenmore canisters (Panasonic makes Kenmore canisters).

In order to confirm this, what you'll need to do is purchase a simple electrical tester from Home Depot, or Lowes, and test the hose to make sure you have power making it through the hose.

To test this, remove the hose from the wand so you just have the handle of the hose in your hand with nothing attached to it. Put both ends of the electrical tester into the two female receptacles that plug into the wand, turn the machine on, and make sure that your hose is set to the carpet setting.

You definitely should have power coming to the hose at this part. If there is no power getting her, this indicates that your hose has gone bad. You may also just purchase a new hose (see link below), and if for any reason this doesn't fix your problem, you may return the hose to us within 60 days for a full 100% refund.

If the hose does have power at the end of it, repeat the process with the wand attached to the hose, but not connected to the power nozzle. If you have power getting to the hose, but not the wand, this indicates your wand has gone bad and need to be replaced. If you have power to your wand and hose, this probably indicates that the cord in the neck of the power nozzle has gone bad. Inspect the wire in the neck of the nozzle and see if you see any burning, or discoloration in on the male prongs.

I'm pretty sure that you'll just need to replace the hose, this is by far the most common problem on Panasonic canisters.

There are two different styles of hoses for Panasonic canisters. In order to find out which one is yours, remove the hose from the canister itself. Where the hose cuff plugs into the canister portion, look at the electrical prongs. There is either a 2 prong hose, or 3 prong hose. Here are links to both of the hoses. If your hose is a 3 position hose with a setting for bare floors, and carpets, then you have the 3 prong hose.

3 Prong Panasonic Canister Electrical Hose (Most Common)

2 Prong Panasonic Canister Electrical Hose

If this didn't fix your problem, please just use the comment section on this repair page and let me know what the outcome was after testing it with the electrical tester, and I'll be more then happy to try and do some more advanced diagnosing with you.

I hope this was helpful to you. If you found this helpful, please be so kind and rate my repair helpful, or leave feedback for me, this is really what keeps Fixya repair experts answering free questions, rather then just the premium questions that we get paid for. This is greatly appreciated.

How can i put on the snap ring on an eloctolux vacuum hose on the end piece of the hose; it is a swivel end and an older vacuum cleaner plastic canister type

The snap ring is generally found on a Canadian made LUX AP series prior to 1982 and it is in fact a coil spring you must leave the wiring off the handle. Be sure the steel cap and rubber o ring are on the tip of the hose. Slide the handle onto the hose with the hose tip facing upright. then with a small flat screwdriver separate the hooked tip of the spring from its body and run your screwdriver around the spring, feeding it into the groove inside the hose handle, spiraling as you go. similar to how you would feed a key onto a key ring. Before inserting the wire cover try to swivel thew handle it should rotate smoothly. Be very gentle inserting the wire cover pin as it will crack the handle. Use gentle pressure with pliers to start it , then squeeze it into place with your plier jaws fully open.
Post back to advise how you have made out

Progressive Kenmore hose canister connection broken 116,2341130

A regular person with patience can however it is tricky. Kenmore hoses have an arrow at the cuff where the corrugated hose meets the swivel elbow at the machine, and at the cuff where the handle meets the hose. If your parts fit in the handle, the cuff needs to be squeezed slightly out of round at the arrows to allow the handle to be popped out, usually by using a vice and applying a sharp blow by hand to the underside of the hand grip.
If your problem is in the lower sleeve area where dirt gets into the contacts at the machine end, there is a 1" clip with bayonets on either side. It must be compressed at the bayonets to allow the sleeve to slide off. The internal contact rings should be cleaned and polished with W/D sand paper #600 and then lubed with vaseline. Contact fingers should be spread to apply more pressure on the internal rings before reassembling in opposite order.
When in doubt Panasonic and Kenmore warranty centers will be familiar with these.

Power cord will not retract

It sounds like the rewinder spring either came off the retainer or broke. If it broke it must be replaced. If it just came off, it can be put back on and rewound. It is a LONG flat piece if springsteel which is VERY sharp. Be Careful.

Intermittent Power brush

I would first check where the hose attaches to the canister. There are 3 power leads; if one is bent, this might produce what you describe. You might even try wiggling this connection to see if it affects operation.

The other place you might see a problem is where the hose connects to the handle itself. There are 3 wires that attach from the hose. This is a bit tricky to remove as it's basically a force fit and take some effort to remove.
