The following is my exact problem...can it be repaired? Hard to tell if piece is broken. "My faxes are not printing. The error message says there is a paper mismatch and tells me to remove the transparency and press enter. Problem is, I'm not using transparencies, just normal paper. Problem started when I noticed a small, clear, rectangular plastic piece in my paper tray. I think this might be the problem, but I can't tell where to reinsert the piece. Help!" from 2008 on your site. Thanks!!

Somewhere, your printer has a sensor (probably a light and a mirror and a detector), to try to distinguish between transparency media and opaque media (such as a sheet of paper).

So, that sensor either has a piece of transparency media stuck inside it, or it is otherwise misdiagnosing what media is between the light-emitter and the light-detector, and thus is claiming that there is transparency media loaded into the paper-tray.

It sounds like you need to take the printer to a qualified technician.

Error 77 message

The 77 error is caused by a fuser temperature sensor. The following steps can be used to possibly reset the Intellifax 4100 77 error.

1. Unplug machine then wait 15-20 minutes.
2. Hold down menu key. Plug in machine.
3. Release menu key at maintenance message.
4. press 91 then set button
5. press 99 then set button
6. Machine will warm up.
7. Press Reports key, then press 1. This will test if the machine can
print.
If these steps do not reset the error the thermal fuse would have to be replaced by a repair technician.

Message unable to print 50

Machine Error 50 either means that there is a loose object inside the machine (usually piece of paper), or that there is a mechanical error which would need you to have the machine sent to service.

Cartridge Error

There might be a part inside the printer that is broken. The carriage might have been damage also. You've already done the hard reset and also replace the cartridges, then the only solution for this is to replace the printer since there is a broken part on it.

Paper mismatch

Sounds like your spot sensor is broken. It will give you this error if not working properly. It is attached to the right side of the cartridge carriage and emits a small blue light when paper is fed in to the machine. It looks at the paper and tells the machine the paper is there or in this case not there.

Error message won't go away.

This message would continue to appear if the drum counter was not reset when you replaced the drum. To reset the drum counter, follow the instructions listed below.

  1. Open the front cover.
  2. Press the Options key on the control panel.
The display will show "REPLACE DRUM - 1.YES 2.NO".
  3. Press 1 to reset the drum count.
  4. Close the front cover.

Error message-Close the back cover

It appears that you have a broken back door have a look on the door to see if there is a broken piece of plastic as when you shut the rear door a tab pushes against a push switch letting the machine know that the door is closed. if you cannot see a broken piece then the switch it faulty try this by push a flat screw driver on the switch and check if the message disappears.

Error message

I can't find the "50" as part of the "Unable to print" error. Usually when you get "Unable to print", it means there's a torn piece of paper, paperclip, some foreign object in the machine somewhere. Check under the scanner lid and inside the machine, look thoroughly; you may find a piece of paper blocking a sensor. If the error message continues, follow these steps before disconnecting the MFC so you won't lose any important messages. Then, disconnect the MFC from the power source for several minutes (which will erase all faxes), and then reconnect it. Check whether the MFC has faxes in memory: 1. Press Menu/Set, 9, 0, 1. 2. If the MFC has no faxes, disconnect the MFC from the power source for several minutes and then reconnect it. ?OR? If faxes are present, you can transfer them to another fax machine. Go to Step 3. 3. Enter the fax number to which faxes will be forwarded. 4. Press Black Start. 5. After faxes are transferred, disconnect the MFC from the power source for several minutes and then reconnect it. You can transfer the Fax Journal report to another fax machine by pressing Menu/Set, 9, 0, 2 in Step 1. Let me know if it helps!
