Question about Zenith DVP615 Portable DVD Player

Have no manual

I just need some info because I bought this unit used and it did not have the manual with it. How long does this take to charge? I plug it in and the red light comes on for just a few minutes and then goes out.....does that mean that it is not charging fully? I just have no idea of whether or not it is supposed to stay on and then turn green when fully charged or not.....I watched some parts of videos on it, but am not sure how long it really played before I got the signal of low battery on the screen. Thanks for any info you could give me.

Re: have no manual

It sounds like a bad power cord. Check your cord to make sure there are no kinks or breaks in it. I have that problem where my cat chewed the cord and now the unit cannot charge properly. Additionally, check to make certain the battery is seated properly. Try cleaning the contact with an Q-tip dipped in alcohol. Once you have done that, leave the unit powered off and see if you get the red charge light. If not, you probably have a bad cord.

This model of DVD Player is made primarily for Walmart Stores so am Assuming you bought it there. Battery Swelling is an acid combustion issue, meaning they over-expired or over charged. Don't leave these charged for too long. Other than recommending to get the replacement that is mentioned in the original Users Manual that came with it, it's quite difficult to get a replacement. I have added a site below for walmart purchases that may be compatible with your unit.

Unfortunately, without getting an exact genuine replacement, there is a down side to the Universal Battery. They claim to hold up to 11 hrs, but the average usage is about 5 hrs constant use. So you figure instead of 4 full length movies maybe 5, you might get about 2-3 movies if you're lucky. Trial and error and user results vary obviously.

And you may wish to check with Walmart. I believe this unit had a recall on it due to faulty wiring and or battery issues that cause a fire hazard. Silver Durabrand DVD Players as well as Purple and Pink ones were recalled. I would take it back if that is where you bought it and ask them about the recall. Or check with to see any updated info.

Wish you luck.

I have a Sylvannia SDVD9000 portable DVD player. My parents bought it for my son for Christmas and we've never figured out how to charge the battery. My son has watched many movies with it plugged in,...

In order to charge the battery you must plug in the power supply AND then turn the off/on switch to OFF. You should see the blue light in front change to red. and you are now charging... Tadah

How to charge dvd plug in to ac get a red light some time yellow and do you charge with power switch on or off need a manual.

I have seen no rechargeable device that requires the power switch that lets the device function turned on. Often, it is mentioned that the length of time for a full charge will be longer if the unit is in use at the time since the unit and recharging function both require power and if the player is in use, it logically has priority over the recharging function. In other words, it should charge more quickly if the player is turned off.
Unfortunately, Initial's website: is no longer in operation so finding the manual could be a problem. Initial Technology has sold a number of 'turkeys' in the US (we own an Ilo TV) and I think they no longer exist.

Why cant I watch the dvd and charge up at the same time? bush bdvd8380

Hi check your manual but if it has to be set to charge it will disconect any power to the unit while it charges if it just plugs in usually the system power plug disconnets the set .. but if it states in the manual that you can watch and charge at the same time then I would think that you have a faulty power socket or the adapter you are using is not man enough to charge and power the set at the same time ?

Thanks for model number update.

below is an image of VCR Mechanism used in this unit.

Part number details, exploded view of parts and timing information are available in related service manual which can be obtained from Manual Zone with little fee.

If you are familiar with VCR mechanical repair then it would be easy to fix.

You can check required part availability and price in Part Store.

I hope above info will help you to fix this unit. let me know if you need further info.

Charge battery for zenith dvp615

not so familiar with this model but try this:

1) Plug your power adaptor to main unit
2) locate "power on" switch and change it to "off"

after doing this steps you will see a red light which means the unit is charging.

note: for some portable player once the charging is complete this red light changes color either orange or green which means the battery already full charge. but it is adviceable to charge battery for atleast 2hrs.

How to recharge the battery

Plug in power plug from wall adapter on rear right of case. Power On/Off switch is on forward left side of case (forward of Brightness and Volume controls). This should be toward back of case to be off. If it is on. an LED on left front of case will be lit. This should be off for charging. When the battery is charging, an LED jus above the power jack will light up. When charging is complete, this LED will go off. The switch on the rear left side of the case is for internal/external video playing. It should be toward the front of the case for internal screen playing. (The FRONT of the case is the one that has the latch for opening the DVD cover.)

The manual says it should last for 2.5 hrs after being charged 3-4 hrs. I charged my used one I just bought all night and can only get 20 min out of it. But when its plugged in, its fine.
