I have a System32\drivers\Ntfs.sys error on my laptop(emacheines M5310 laptop w/windows xp home edition sp1). How can i fix this? i tried the 3 disk system restorer,but it dose not work to fix this. any info will be a big help. thanx...

To resolve this problem, replace the missing or corrupted Ntfs.sys file:
Use the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD to restart your computer.
When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to select the To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R option.
Type the number of the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console, and then press ENTER.
Type the administrator password when you are prompted, and then press ENTER. If no administrator password exists, just press ENTER.
At the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each command):
--->cd \windows\system32\drivers
--->ren ntfs.sys ntfs.old Note This step renames the corrupted Ntfs.sys file to Ntfs.old. If the Ntfs.sys file is not found, the file is missing.
At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:copy cd:\i386\ntfs.sys drive:\windows\system32\drivers
Where cd is the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP CD, and drive is the drive where you installed Windows XP.
Remove the Windows XP CD from your CD-ROM drive, type quit at a command prompt, and then press ENTER to quit the Recovery Console.
This is a typical sign of a defective hard drive.Your hard drive might or might not be repairable, depending on the degree of damage. I would recommend that you use a live CD (such as this one: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html) to boot up your computer & run a hard disk diagnostic tool like HDD Regenerator. It might take several hours (sometimes days) to fix the damage. If this did not help, then you will have to replace the hard drive.

I would suggest using the Windows Disk, if you have one, go through normal windows installation. At the point of installation just after pressing F8 it will detect windows exists and offer you a repair option press R to repair
First go to recovery console. try this command after the command prompt.
CD system32\drivers\
Enter
Last line should be:
C:\windows\system32\drivers>
then...
Expand the file from the CD.
expand d:\i386\ntfs.in_
or
expand d:\i386\ntfs.sy_
if this doesnt work try to run CHKDSK /R. if you get any error while running checkdisk repair you will need a hard drive replacement.
Boot into recovery console, and at the c:\windows prompt type:
cd system32
cd drivers
ren ntfs.sys ntfs.old
If the ntfs.sys file is there and corrupt this will rename it. If it is not there, then it was missing.
At the prompt type:
copy e:\i386\ntfs.sys c:\windows\system32\drivers\ntfs.sys
