Question about Sylvania 6620LCT 20 in. EDTV-Ready LCD Television
Our sylvania is 1 year old and all of a sudden the power won't stay on. When I turn the TV on it turns off in about 10 seconds.
Anything I can do?
Transistor Q601 (K3869) is over heating. This is obviously a design flaw in the power supply. You can either extend or modify the heatsink or have some genious wire in a colling fan in the back cover.
I found the problem after running a common house hold fan on it with the back off. TV continued to run. Unplug the set before touching the heatsink after the problem occurs.

This particular model has a history of this problem.
This sounds like a safety feature built into the television. It may be trying to protect itself from an unsafe electrical source. The more expensive the equipment, the more sophisticated the power supply that converts the power from your outlet into your television. There could have been a lightning strike that has disabled the tv. Or it could be a faulty outlet.
Before called for a technician, I recommend plugging the television into a different outlet. use a good quality extension cord if necessary. You may find that your outlet is not polarized correctly.
