Re: trinitron

Probaly a solder connection on your chassis. look closely around the fly back, horizontal driver transformer and the verticle and horizontal yoke connections

My 10 yr old Sony KP-51WS520 rear projection tv come on for about 10 seconds and then shuts off.

Sadly yes. that is repairable but a 55" flatscreen TV is pretty reasonably priced these days. It will use a lot less electricity as well.

My almost 10 yr old Mitsubishi HDTV intermitently has color flux

The Main issues with the Mitsubishi HDTVs that size are the projection bulbs in the rear. A large TV like the Mitsubishi can allow dust build up on the lamps and the mirror in the rear that projects the picture to the screen. An easy fix would be to clean off the dust off of the mirror and bulbs. You would need to go through a tough processto do this since the mirror can be quite heavy and is in an ackward place. The only other alternative would be the need to replace the projection lamps themselves which can cost any where fromm $150 - in some cases $300 a piece for the lamp itself. The Television is still a great set but can cost quite a bit right now to fix if the problem is with the Lamps. If you can afford the Lamp replacement if it is needed the set would last you another 10 years plus. If you wouldn't like to go through the hassle of repairing the set or finding a place to repair the set there are so many new sets out in the market that will give you an amazing picture and quality.

I turned the TV on, a mild 'pop' sound, and it immediatly shut off. Now it won't power on at all. Is it worth fixing? Its 11 years old (July 1998). Thanks for any advice!!

you may have just blown a fuse. check and replace with same size and type. if you smell burning, you fried something, and it may not be worth replaing on a 11 yr old tv.

Keep repairing a 8 yr old TV

If the TV still has a good picture then yes. Have the Tech replace the IC's with the Sanyo Type as they are a better quality IC. They cost about $30 each as opposed to the generic for $10 each. He should also make sure there are no resistors in the circuit that may have changed value. This could cause the IC's to go bad prematurely.

36" Sony Trinitron blinking red 4 times-PLEASE HELP QUICK!

Sounds like a typical high-voltage failure. Could easily cost another $300 to have it fixed. If it is less than about 6 years old I'd say it was worth fixing. If you want to DIY, then pull all the electronics out (label all the connections) and send it all to either Module Exchange at 972-298-1212 or PTS Electronics 800-844-7871

Mitsubishi 10 yr old rear projection

Well, there is no lamp or simple part you can unplug and plug in. I have seen a couple of those sets with that symptom recently and it is caused by a faulty 9 volt regulator on the small signal board. This is not an easy part to change and the repair should absolutely be handled by a tech experienced in Mitsubishi projection sets.

Blue screen.....

You have the classic sign of the failed Sony CRT. This was a VERY common issue with tese series of TV's. Just replacing the blue CRT alone isn't easy as they are no longer available and have to be pulled to be rebuilt. If you do that I highly suggest replacing the green and the red as they will follow. Maybe not now but trust me they will. You are looking over 1000.00 in repairs.
