Re: Battery back up is limited to 1 hour only

I would suggest you discharge the battery fully by using the laptop and then let it shut off. Then freeze the battery in the freezer overnight for at least 12 hours. Yes i know it sounds stupid but it works. Then after you have taken it out. Let it thaw out in just a room with normal room temp. Make sure you put the carrier bag underneath. After about 3h - 4h thawing time. Then make sure there is no water or any liquid visible. Finally put the battery back in and charge for the recommended charging time when you first got the laptop E.G. 10hours. It worked for mine and restored the battery!!!!

Re: Battery back up is limited to 1 hour only

Did you do a full cycle charge when you got the Laptop? When you buy the Laptop you have to use the computer on battery till the battery dies and then charge battery for 12 hours and you repeat that another time. Most likely your battery it is damaged. Maybe you call the company and they might replace it for you.

I bought an acer timeline x 4820 tg laptop 1 month ago which says it has got a battery backup of 8 hrs but it doesnot even gives a 5 hour battery back up . why?

The only reason is it will depends on the usage of your laptop. You can try to change the power settings of your computer so that it will last for more than 5 hours. You have 3 options: Power Saver, Balanced and High Performace.

1. Go to Control Panel
2. Hardware and Sound
3. Power Option

Make your Lithium Laptop Battery last longer.

Hello folks,

Although I usually offer advice on backing up files or recovering them, I have been asked a lot lately how my 3 year old laptop still runs 1:45mins on a standard battery when many peoples 1-2 year old laptops can barely last an hour.

Simply put, most people do one of two things wrong. Both are common misconceptions and easy to remedy. First I've heard countless people tell me they pop the battery out of their laptop and toss it in the desk drawer until needed, often months. Second I have been told by more people than I can count that they leave their laptop plugged in 24/7 for most of the year.

Bottom line, although popping it out and leaving it in the drawer is less harmful to it's lifespan, both ideas are wrong.

The shelf life of most unused lithium batteries is shorter when unused than ones being used properly. The lifespan of a battery that is constantly being trickle charged is even shorter.

Most batteries in modern laptops are 4-6 cells, designed to give about 2 hours of charge and should last 3-5 years with charge life starting to degrade in the third year.

A "stored battery" has only 3 years of shelf life due to extended times sitting discharged and one that is trickle charged 24/7 may burn out in as little as a year.

Many laptop manufacturers have taken measures to improve this but ultimately the best thing for your battery is to use it. If you currently run you laptop plugged in 24/7, unplug it every night after you shut it off, then when you start it in the morning, let it run an hour before plugging it back in. This will give the battery both down time and exercise.

If your battery is in a drawer somewhere for safe keeping, put it back in the laptop, run it down then charge it over night and run it down then recharge it one more time. Store it back in the drawer charged and repeat the cycle at least once a month.

These tips will help drastically improve you batteries performance over time. My 3 year old laptop only ever got 2 hours of battery life and still gets 1:45 with no power saving measures, give it a try.

Compaq EL81 laptop. Battery will not charge. Laptop powers/boots up with battery installed but shuts down after a few minutes. Removed the battery, power up and unit now stays on. Bad battery?

The battery in my laptops only seem to last 1 or 2 years.

Yes, I would say it's a bad battery.

Try to get a higher capacity one from I upgraded from a 6 cell (1 or 2 hours of battery life) to a 9 cell (3 or 4 hours of battery life) on my Acer Aspire for about $39.

Prices will vary depending on make and model and capacity.

Hi my battery only lasts up to an hour, how do i

Well it should last between 3-4 hours if new.

Batteries need conditioned . You fully charge them and then run them fully down. 1 hour seems pretty short. As a rule, don't run them on battery while plugged into power.

I have no better solution than this.
My MPC t2300 laptop wom't turn on.

The Transport T2300 has an internal battery that will run the laptop for several minutes after the main battery goes dead. This feature allows you to save your work and shut down safely. If you run the laptop until both batteries are dead, even a brand new battery can't start the unit again. You have to follow this procedure:
1.Unplug power cord

2. Remove any attached periphal components including the cd rom and/or floppy disk module if you have one. Both remove with a push button switch located on the bottom of the unit.

3. Plug in power cord and charge the unit for a minimum of 24 hours straight. 30 hours is better. This whole time will be spent slowly recharging the internal back up battery.

4. Once that is done, unplug power cord again and reinstall any floppy/cd drives. Plug power cord back in now and charge for at least 24 hours again.

If your backup battery is dead, you can't charge the main battery or turn the unit on. The longer you charge, the better. We had one unit here that had to be on the initial battery backup for 72 hours before it finally took hold. Then, one overnight recharge on the regular battery and all was well.
If you need drivers or manuals for the 2300, all are available on cd at for around $9.50 including shipping, handling, and owners manual

Brand New laptop, won't start

Try taking the battery out before you turn it on. Have seen completely a dead dead battery keeping a laptop from starting up. Does the hard drive activity light flickering? If it is you can try holding down the Function button (FN) and there should be another button to hit to switch between LCD\CRT.
