We have black lines running along the bottom edge of a letter sized paper (along the left edge of an 11x17 inch page). These are not smudge lines - there are about 80 mechanically perfect hairline rules, perfectly straight and spaced, running from the edge of that page (outside the print margin) to about 1" into the page. This occurs on ALL printed pages, such as the printer's own configuration page, or a document from my computer.

Re: Lines along edge of paper
1 of 3 things I can think of off top of my head.
Since they are straight, I would suspect the transfer unit.
If it were just one color it would be that imaging unit.
Unlikely the fuser.
It doesn't sound line an issue called bar coding ,where the machine prints random lines. That would be a software issue.
Take the transfer unit out and inspect it for the marks.
I am assuming the streaks are on all colors correct?
If it isn't on the transfer belt, and on all colors check the fuser and see if its latched.

the quickest way to find out if your paper jams are due to wrong size paper reporting is to print the network status page.
This page is outline with a line that runs 1/2inch from the edge all the way around the outer edge.
if the box of this page prints smaller than the letter size paper the paper reporting is smaller than 8 1/2 x 11 and if the line at the bottom of the page is missing its reporting a size larger than 8 1/2 x 11 either of these occurances willl be the cause of your paper jams
Fuser hot belt has wear lines transfering to the page
Black pcu needs to be replaced
Transfer unit is not being cleaned properly and needs to be replaced.
Remove each of these assy and inspect them for wear or lines that corespond to the lines on your prints.
it could be the printer settings. Before you actually print something go to File>print:- and then choose properties, click on advanced and ensure that the correct paper and size is set to how you want it.

Note Under some circumstances, streaking may occur in the margin of
SRA3-size paper. This is due to the edges of the paper extending
beyond the end of the imaging components. print-quality in the

The NP6551 is an analogue copier, using only mirrors and lenses. It has no way of rotating the image. If you want to reduce a 11x17 to a 8.5x11 both peices of paper need to be fed in the same direction, ie short edge first. Change one of your trays to LTR-R ('R' for Reduction) or feed the LTR paper in thru the bypass in the long direction. If you use te bypass you must specify the paper size as LTR-R, you cannot use FREE.
Hi, Legal size is 11x17 inches and you cannot get a legal length document when selected for landscape. Landscape means that it is 11 inches high and 17 inches wide. You need to set it to letter and select 11x17 inches.
