Question about Samsung SyncMaster 204B 20.1" LCD Monitor

2 Answers

Resolution Problem Yesterday my SyncMaster 204B all of a sudden didn't have a resolution option above 1024x768. I've always had it at 1600x1200. I have a dell inspiron e1505 that has 1280x800 resolution. I've never had a problem before. I don't know if I accidentally changed something or what, but I've talked to some people who tried updating the driver for it...didn't work. Any help?

Re: Resolution Problem

Try to uninstall the driver and reinstalling it. Usually this is an issues with the driver or if have updated the computer with any other driver that might have caused the computer to have that problem. Check if installed any game or program that might have caused that problem.

Most of the time is an issue of an driver. Check on Device manager if there is any driver with a question mark yellow.

you cannot set the resolution to 1024x768 but instead try 1280x720 or if you have graphics card try to set the resolution using its custom resolution by setting 1280x768.
It will surely solve your problem.

Screen Resolution problem

Different video cards offer different ways to deal with a user's screen. ATI, and others, for instance, offer a "virtual desktop", which does what you're describing. You get to the settings that control this feature from the Personalize->Display Settings menu options. Here you'll also find the different resolutions your video adapter supports. If the 1600 x 1200 resolution is listed, then I would remove the existing driver for both the adapter and the monitor, and reboot the machine. On startup, Windows will most likely detect the "new" hardware (actually, your existing ones) and will go through the process of finding the appropriate drivers for your adapter. Good luck!

No 1440X900 Resolution Option in Display Settings

Windoze is not detecting the monitor correctly. Right click the desktop as you had before to get to the display settings. Click the "advanced" button at the lower right, on the next window, click the "Monitor" tab, and remove the check from the box from "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display". That should add to the settings the 1400 X 900 resolution you are looking for.

Unclear Display

Goto cotrol panel/display/settings and set the resolution to 640x480. Make your you are using the video driver from the manufactorer for your video card. Windows generic drivers do not work well for all monitors. When you get the proper video driver you can reset your resolution back to a higher setting.

Prob with screen resolutions

May I suggest working on the monitor itself before tackling the video card.

To my understanding, your monitor came with an installation CD that contain drivers/software for your OS to recognize the LCD correctly. Should you need a downloadable copy, its filename is 20050615115516359_SM740N.exe.

If you have already installed the monitor's drivers and updated your video card's driver as well, and problem persist, you may need to work on the AGP or PCI-E of the motherboard itself. Pls post back motherboard or PC's brand and model.

Hope this be of help. Pls post back as requested, how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
