Lighting Problem Neither the night light or work light will operate. Have installed new bulbs

I'm having the same problem with a sharp r-1480 microwave. The working light and the nightlight don't work. I've replaced the bulbs (but the old buld don't appear to be bad)

  • pgaydos Jan 18, 2009

I have exact same problem on same model. Ever since I bought it I noticed it kept going through bulbs very fast. I was replacing them every few months or so. Just last week I replaced both halogens again and within a few days, light stopped working. Bulbs have not burned out this time. Bulbs are good, so is this a blown fuse? Everything else on microwave works...just cooktop/night light feature broken.

We see this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Lights on bottom don't work. Sockets fell apart and vent fan now does not work. A bulb blew out , then all of this happened.

We see and repair this a lot. The problem is on the control board, which we regularly repair for $39.95 nationwide.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

We'd also recommend buying top-quality bulbs.

They can blow if subjected to vibration such as door slamming or a weak floor, or electrical fluctuation, especially if they are cheap bulbs or they are left on all night.

Instead of having the board repaired, you can order a new control circuit board / smart board if that's economical, and since your sockets are bad, they will need to be replaced, too.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here. I recommend that you bookmark that link to your

There's a YouTube video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you're changing the board yourself, you'll need to detach the keypad connector:

Some connectors will have a lock.

I have a Sharp model R-1610 Microwave. The work/night light does not work. I"ve changed the bulbs.

Does it operate with a membrane-type touchpad?

These things seem to be problematic as the microwave ages.

They are usually replaceable, and the cost is not great. I just installed a new touchpad on an LG, and it cost $25.00 plus shipping.

Same for us. The night light and work light do not work.

Simple screw driver to remove the cover plates on the bottom of the oven and the bulb unscrews. Install a new appliance bulb and your back in business.
