Check for a siezed pully under the hood remove the belt and check to see all pullys spin free with no noise also check the AC clutch make sure it free spins.

Did you check the rest of the U-joints. If you have a hanger bearing, you should have a 2 piece drive shaft and thus 3 more U-joints that could be bad.
you could have 2 problems. steering leak and poss a bearing. jack up the car and spin the right front wheel, makes noise there is a problem. if the noise only happens when you turn, with tire off turn the wheel and watch.
There may be debris in your drive belt causing a squeek. With the engine running pour some water on each belt, this will cause the belt at fault to squeek.
Your problem is very common. you need to have your u-joints also known as universal joints. that is what the clunking noise you are hearing.

you'll have to the belt if the belt is old. also, a temporary solution i learned that gets rid of some of the noise is to slowly pour a pitcher of water on the belt while the car is on.
